if you could trade Fields for Stroud today straight up would you do it?
I havenā€™t seen the Texans play yet. Sure they have two wins and I see Stroud has like 1200 yards on the season and no picks, but Iā€™m not strictly a stat guy. I watch games. Thereā€™s no guarantee the Bears would have won a game with him as our QB.

well my point was going to be, if we have the opportunity to take a cant miss talent in Caleb Williams in this upcoming draft - you just have to do it (not to even mention the benefits of restarting the QB contract clock)

I still am hopeful that Justin can be a good QB in this league, but if Caleb is who they say he is, we just cant pass that up if we have the opportunity

Thing is sometimes its bad coaching. Look at geno smith with jets and geno smith now. Look at baker mayfield with browns and baker mayfield now.

You can have a ā€œcanā€™t missā€ QB and never win anything. Cam was seen as that, and while he did get to a SB and won league MVP, he ultimately didnā€™t win and now the narrative around him his different. Meanwhile, you can have mediocre QBs like Joe Flacco and Nick Foles who had great teams and not only did they win, they were SB MVPs. I think Fields is good enough to win if he has a great team and coaching staff around him.

Exactly. Knowing the Bears luck, they trade him, and he goes to a better situation and lights it up. Chargers got rid of Drew Brees for a better prospect in Phillip Rivers. Rivers put up decent stats and had a bunch of kids, but never won. Brees becomes a SB winner and HOFer.

We're seeing this a lot more now too. That's why I think Justin will be a good starter at some point. But Chicago is not going to work. The Bears still are still in a unique position here because the Panthers suck.

They can still try and get the most out of Justin and it would be an audition for the rest of the NFL, trade him at years end and still have the 1st Pick

You will have your pick of the GM/HC litter with this draft capital next year

I would honestly rather be in the Bears position than a lot of teams

Youā€™re ignoring all the QBs that were trash on their first team and continued to be trash going forward tho. Like Sam darnold still sucks, it wasnā€™t the Jets.

If Caleb was coming out in 2022 they wouldnā€™t have traded down

True. I don't think we've seen Justin in a good situation tho. Nothing in his tenure here has been made easy. Hell, a good defense and special teams unit could also make him look better and gain confidence by giving him good field position, or by ending opposing drives quicker to keep the offense in rhythm.

There's just so much wrong with the team breh

Justin has too many of his own issues minus coaching to not take Caleb. If we get the top pick, they will 100% draft Caleb and cut bait with Justin (and it would be the right move if the talk of Caleb is legit)

Does Calebā€™s height concern you at all? Also, did you think the Bears made the right move trading the top pick and not drafting Bryce or CJ? Not in retrospect, but what did you think was the right move at the time?

I think we all can agree we afforded Fields another chance given the circumstances and his potential. Even if Caleb was coming out last year, I personally ( and obviously incorrectly) would've wanted to ride with Fields. It's just that if we're being realistic he hasn't shown any growth from his rookie year and making the EXACT same mistakes he's been making since he was drafted. I truly don't understand how someone can watch every down of every bears game for the last three years and still think he can be the answer here.

I agree, he could find himself in a nick foles/Joe flacco situation elsewhere, but that for damn sure ain't happening in Chicago/Arlington Heights. It's time to move on.
