Whatā€™s the point then? The Bears have veterans on the team in their prime ready to win now. Are we supposed to sacrifice a couple of years because he just might be that guy in 2-3 years?

Keep in mind, heā€™s coming to a better situation than Fields where the Bears didnā€™t have a 1st round pick in Fieldā€™s second season, while Williams presumably would have a 1st round pick joining him on a team that won 7 games (shouldā€™ve been ten games).

Because if you keep fields you have to pay him too and he has all the leverage.

you want to pay fields 50 mill a year :mjlol:

In the past 30 seasons (or since Drew Bledsoe was drafted #1), the Manning brothers and Matthew Stafford are the only #1 pick QBs who spent 10 years or more with the team that drafted them.

I dont really see the value in only looking at the #1 pick here - I think you understand my general point though. The hope here is that Caleb is a franchise level QB and would be here for a long time like franchise level guys tend to do. I dont think we are competing for a Superbowl with Fields next year, bringing in Caleb increases the ceiling of this team for years to come if he is who they say he is

Kurt Warner basically broke it down:
ā€œWhen you get to the point we are at in this league with quarterbacks ā€” what you have to pay them and what that means for your organization ā€” you better know that heā€™s the guy,ā€ NFL Network analyst Kurt Warner told a select group of reporters at Super Bowl 2024. ā€œThat, to me, is where teams get in trouble.

ā€œThe Giants go give $40 million [per year] to Daniel Jones. He hasnā€™t shown us heā€™s that guy. Weā€™ve seen glimpses, maybe. The Giants are still behind the 8-ball because heā€™s still not that guy. Maybe he will be, but heā€™s not right now ā€” and they paid him.ā€
..
ā€œWhen you have three years and donā€™t take out the doubt, I think you have to move on,ā€ Warner said. ā€œYou canā€™t just go pay that guy $50 million in hopes that those glimpses you saw will turn into greatness. It may be unfortunate because some of those guys play too early ā€” they are not ready ā€” but their next contract will be determined by it.

ā€œYou have to put in the element of [the Bears] have the No. 1 pick. Itā€™s not as if they have No. 23 and they are just going to go get the next quarterback.ā€

Chargers fans for example, we knew Herbert was the guy despite some mediocre results. If Fields hasn't answered that question to your fanbase by and large during his first three years and you have the chance at a generational talent then you go ahead and take that opportunity.

I dont have any expectation that Poles should be responding to game commentary from someone like Chris Collinsworth and this idea that was put out there that Poles/Flus fed the media negative feedback about Justin seems very far fetched and doesnt match the things they have said about him

Man I don't even know why ya'll stay going back and forth with these casual ass fans (JF stans really) who don't have a critical thinking bone in they body. You got dudes in here now who aint posted once in the thread trying to guilt trip people who have watched every snap the bears have played for years like we don't have eyes as well.

Breh thinks the GM is supposed to be taking color commentators to task :dead:

Y'all shouldn't want Caleb. He is not a long term answer. If he was subject to the same level of criticism as Fields he would buckle. If as a fan base y'all want a QB pick Poles should trade down and draft Jayden.

Man people need to stop with this narrative too.

Fields has put on Daniel Jones numbers and has legions of nikkas and pundits still acting like he the second coming. Where is this immense level of criticism at? people love him. He barely gets criticized even when he has a bad game.

Look yā€™all got yā€™allā€™s opinions but yall ainā€™t got to lie

And as far as Iā€™m concerned yall really going back and forth about absolutely nothing, fields is gone so yall might as well prepare yall selves for williams

However yall feel can yall be patient with Williams regardless of how he plays

He gets criticized no more or less than any other starting qb and has super die hard fans.

So where exactly is this ravenous chicago media machine at that destroyed fields . or fans. or talking heads. go look on IG, fb, X, espn you'll find plenty of folks that still support fields quite a bit. Yes some people criticize him. People criticize Lamar and he is theoretically what peak fields should look like so why should Justin be completely exempt from speaking on his faults?

Fields does not have die hard fans, you have disgruntled fans who routinely see failed team building with these bears teams and they felt bad for Justin cause he was put in a terrible spot ever since he was drafted, itā€™s more so anti bears leadership thing versus being super fans of fields, I donā€™t even know why you playing crazy about that
