I'm far from modern ye's biggest fan, but hip-hop has kinda b*stardized what the meaning of a producer is, as evidenced by most of this thread's replies.
Producing encompasses a lot more than just getting on the boards, and sometimes doesn't even involve that. The traditional idea of what a producer is tends to be closer to a movie director.
