It is sad at how there are rap fans and there are true hip hop fans. People who like rap and people who live their daily lifestyle a hip hop cultural lifestyle. Yasiin bey aka Mos Def been one of the purist hip hop artists that we have. From an artistic standpoint, he embodies everything that is pure about the culture. The four main principles: Peace, Unity, Love, and Having fun. He's exercises progression and knowledge for the masses while providing the competitive bravado of a natural MC, One thing that'll be NEVER in debate is whether or not Yasiin bey is HIP HOP. He made that plain in his song Rock & Roll nearly 25 years ago that "I AM HIP HOP" while speaking about the same thing he saying in regards of Drake NOW and I applaud him for keeping that energy in identifying who's the real from the fake when it comes to hip hop culture. Who is living the culture or who are the actual vultures spreading emptiness, soulless, non-progressive music to a society that is on the brink of self-destruction.
If you are Drake fans, there's nothing wrong with that. Like who you like. But if a certified respected country artist was asked whether Taylor Swift was country, and they said, "No. She's pop. Her music is good for shopping," NOBODY THAT LIVES A COUNTRY LIFESTYLE WOULD ARGUE THAT BECAUSE IT IS FACTS. But rap fans want to claim Drake is hip hop despite clearly making POP MUSIC. He just so happens to rap and sing, but his music isn't what defines hip hop at all. It's not just because he raps, or his beats or anything of that nature. It is SAFE. It lacks personality. A message. A soul. It's why people complain that Drake lacking artistic growth, because he bases everything off algorithms and trends and follow what's the latest vibe. He doesn't do anything that is challenging, or innovative, or emotional. And hip hop music, not rap music, but HIP HOP MUSIC embodies all of that.
