I don't think you can fault yahoo news for other people's silly comments, it's a user generated forum.

People need to know where we are as a society, where we as a people stand, closing down these things does not help that.
Uh they provide the platform for said silly comments and to many it is offensive. That's not what yahoo is trying to do with their news articles it's just a bi-product of having a comments section.

Enough with the platform argument

Right now as I type this I'm watching Joe rogan with Ben Shapiro, new segment just came out last night.
I'm like half an hour in and so far everything shapiro is saying is complete BS.
He's talking about things like the 1619 project, slavery and BLM and it's disengenous, all of it.
But i'm still watching it, I'm not hating on rogan for bringing him on to his show.
I listen to everyone, even people i disagree with even strongly disagree with.
And the person say it is not a reflection of the host whether it be a website, a chanel or an interviewer.

To not be able to differentiate that to me is quite childish.
You can't hide racism, and should not want to.
You cannot eliminate something you don't know is there.
And you may say, well you know it's there, ok well others Don't!

The difference is you see it's Ben Shapiro making the comments, that's informative and you can act on that info going forward. It's not informative that pls2478 said something racist on yahoo in the comment section.

Yes I can agree that anonimity is one of your valid arguments

but don't forget, we also want privacy on the internet without requiring you to login with your real name or facebook account.
that's obviously too big brother
so what's the middle ground?
Thing is there isn't always a middle ground, sometimes i'ts just life
let's worry about what we can control, not what we can't.

also hateful and fake news comments don't do nearly as much damage as corruption.
So we are really focusing on the wrong things here.

Stalin used to do this as well, to lead the opposition.
give the people things to focus on while mass corruption and bloodshed continues

I never had an issue with comment sections. 1) you know what to expect 2) it’s always good to have a reality check and know what opposing views think...too many people want to be insulated in echochambers and people who only think like them 3) they were easy to avoid

:yeshrug:

I haven't read Yahoo comments in like 10 years. No joke. The only ones I ever gleaned any rational information from was Yahoo! Finance about stocks and stuff.

That's also why I tend not to read the comments from articles on the Philly TV stations. Especially crime related because you know what to expect :mjpls:

It always got me how the most irate commenters were on assault/homicide articles where the suspect's race wasn't listed. They all swore it was a damn PC conspiracy rather than lack of witnesses or information :pachaha:

Yahoo comments section was at times too extreme and stereotypical to be believable. I don't know how many bots and fake accounts permeated those comments, but it was by far the worst section readily accessible to the public.

Shyt made TLR look like a stroll down Sesame Street.

Bushing that shyt is absolutely the correct thing to do. People are acting like the comments on articles, videos, etc aren't just as much as a draw sometimes (if not more) than the actual content itself. Comments by nature influence your perception of the content being consumed. Allowing that filth to exist and fester was akin to promoting propaganda.

Philly.com (The Philadelphia Inquirer's and Philadelphia Daily News's combined website) comments section is 1A most toxic, just barely beaten out by Yahoo's. And they have less of an excuse because they're the primary news hub for a top 5 major media market in the country.

This. And commenting on their boards was like squirting a squirt gun into the ocean. Totally useless.

Yahoo.com might be late-90s/early 2000s era as a search engine, but Yahoo News is one of the top news sites on the net. :comeon: Many of the articles posted on the Coli are from Yahoo News.
I have a soft spot for yahoo as they gave me my first free email address that I still use. and they had a superior email interface until they changed it to be more like gmail, big mistake. And yes, going there for mail I do read the headlines and click on any article of interest while there.
