Every post on here has illmatic when in reality i bet maybe one song is on your "most played" list on your phone or desktop.

I'm pretty sure I've played Illmatic more than any other album ever...if it's not Illmatic, it's ATLiens. It's one of the most loved and revered albums of all time, so I'm not sure what what spur this comment.

The Ecstatic is musically one of the best albums of the last 5-10 years.

He got snubbed at the grammys.

I loved Ecstatic. Definitely one of the most overlooked and unappreciated albums in recent memory.

This is a good thread btw. I get so tired of reading posts about the the greatest this and that, as if it's humanly possible to create an objective greatest anything list about hip-hop when it appeals to each person through their own subjective filter, taste, sonic perception, and experience. I generally only discuss music I like and why I like it, and don't get caught up in all these futile discussions about such-and-such album being a classic (a word that has been rendered utterly meaningless) or not, GOAT rappers lists, etc.

I'm challenging it because people often seem FORCED to list illmatic so their "real hip hop" card doesnt get revoked.

The constant listing in this threads first replies shined a light on that to me.

I can see why you'd feel that way.

Honestly, Illmatic, and Jazzmatazz vol 1 arent two of my most played top albums, but they're two of the best. Personally, albums like that aren't something I can listen to a lot.. they are "heavy" rap albums, that are a lot to digest. not something I can listen to all the time, but that doesn't make em not a personal favorite. I just had to put them on my list for how complete and perfect they are. I'll compare them to really great wine lol wine snobs don't drink high quality wine all the time, but that doesn't mean it's not their personal favorite than say, a lower quality wine that you drink more often hahah
