Tons of African names are of Arab, Indian and European origin.

My middle name means "rich and selfish" and my last name means "black rock" all African but my first name is a European name. Kinda of embarrassed to used it in middle to high school cause kids use to make fun of my African name. Now I take pride in it

The way I see it is that AAs are our own tribe with our own distinct history. Part of that history is slavery and our given surnames is an extension of that. I'm not saying to take pride in our surnames like Cacs do obviously. They are European names but our given names is a reminder of our history and something that makes our tribe distinct from other tribes in the Black diaspora. When I hear the name "Joe Jackson", I know that it's a brotha and we share similar histories. We come from the same tribe and culture. When I hear the name "Kwasi Asamoah", I know dude is black but we have different histories and come from different cultures, etc.

I didn't pay any attention to it, until some cats in my class noticed our names were the same and let me know it could very well be a possibility his ancestors owned mine. I never looked at that white boy the same and its been on my mind here and there to have it changed.....

Or maybe your ancestors owned his, whites weren't the only ones with slaves.

Me and my wife were at the Sams Club not too far from where we lived a couple of years ago and were browsing over some shyt in the electronics section. This black DirecTV rep comes over and asks us about our tv service, yada yada and shyt. While talking to him for just 10 seconds, he immediately asks me "Where you from?". I said I live in Tyrone and shyt, but he was like "NAH, where you FROM?" I'm looking at this nikka like , but I reply that I'm from Charleston SC (my wife as well). He was like, "Yeah, I know, I could tell from your accent". Now my wife and I's geechie accent isn't heavy at all but he immediately picked up on it (pretty amazing honestly considering I've been accused from being from a variety of areas around the country). Anyway, we start talkin about life and shyt back home compared to the A and where we went to high school and shyt. Apparently this cat's cousins (1st) went to school with us in high school. Just crazy shyt.

He then tells us of a story where this older white couple came into the Sams and he was trying to get them to cop DTV. The lady notices the cat's last name is Seabrook and replies that it was her maiden name and she also grew up in the Charleston Area. He immediately replied to her that her great grandfather's name was William Seabrook or some shyt and she was stunned asking him how he knew. He told her that basically his family was from her great grandfather's plantation and shyt. He said that woman was so stunned to the point that she immediately cried and hugged him. As crazy as it was, they were pretty much family. A very crazy and surreal experience for both of them he said. Talk about coincidence of them running into each other.

He said she and her husband copped the highest package from DTV that day on contract. She even keeps up with him and shyt

We'd still manage to be at the bottom of the totem pole until we figure out how to unify and gain strength as a group. Chinese people would only invade the U.S. for their benefit, no one should hope they come crush the buildings and do what we won't, and they won't be any more kind to Black people than Europeans. We'd exchange European slave names for Chinese slave names.
