I'd agree on the January thing if this were 3 or 4 years ago but studios don't feel like it's just a dumping ground anymore. They're understanding that blockbusters or potential blockbusters can drop year round now and there's not enough space in the summer or spring so you gotta do what you gotta do. If it can be the one big movie dropping in January that's great for them and great for the movie financially. Consumers don't care when something comes out if it looks enticing or stars people they like.

January was and still is the Dead Zone for Blockbusters. "American Sniper" and "Ride Along" are not the rule but the acception. Sure we've seen some major breakout hits in every single month of the year but there's a reason certain films go certan places. "Fifty Shades of Grey" and "Deadpool" showed Februrary could be a huge month too but studios aren't running to put there big films in February. xXx and State of the Union both opened in the summer seasons (State of the untion was late april but basically summer) because basically it's a summer franchise.

The only reason they are releasing this in Janurary is because Vin obviously doesn't want it to compete with "Fast 8" and the movies do look way to simular. Yes xXx was on that wild ish before Fast and Furious made the switch but people know Vin way more for Fast than xXx. I think it should of been a late summer release like August. I do agree that the summer could be crowded but less competition doesn't garentee anything. "BatsVSupes" was in the perfect spot to clean up in March with weak competition and it fell short of a Billion.
