XXL & 5Mics Rating

cause you can't seriously say you rate music then not give a universally lauded album a perfect score when everybody else does. Benzino bit the bullet with Aquemini.

giving an album like The Naked Truth 5 mics... you can say some bum ass reviewer that don't word there no more did it.

College Dropout LR and MBDTF are all 5 mic albums if you ask me. But isn't the time to stop worrying who got a 5 mic or an xxl. Aren't these albums rated by just one person at a time. Not a panel of people with different opinions. Back in the day i used to turn right to the rating section of The Source to see who got what rating. But as i got older i realized that one person can't decide what is classic and what's not. And besides if you fukk with an artist hard, aren't u more inclined to give them a higher rating.

But they gave Aquemini 5 mics though?
I mean 4 mics in 96 wasn't exactly bad, they basically got the same rating as RD, Ironman and IWW. I don't know, I just felt like it was the first southern album that was getting that 5 mic love up north from everyone but the source (I'm not old enough to remember how it was when geto boys first came through with their classics). Scarface didn't get that love either but was later given his right props for The Diary.

When they gave Face 5 for The Fix I automatically looked at that as a make up rating. Like they screwed up by not giving face 5 for Diary soooooooooo let's make it up by giving him 5 for the Fix .

I remember reading somewhere that Benzino HATED Outkast for some reason and didn't want ever wanna give them props....

He did the same thing to Little Brother with The Minstrel Show. he made the reviewer change the mics from 4 1/2 to 4. This caused that reviewer to leave the mag.

Its funny cause Little Brother got screwed by both magazines for The Minstrel Show. Cause I remember Elliott Wilson saying it had originally been awarded XXL but he decided to change it to an XL because they just gave Common and Ye XXL both for Be and Late Reg and they didn't wanna be seen as backpack/conscious lovin mag.

I copped The Fix when it dropped and still don't see how it got 5 mics. Its def dope but it isn't even a Top 3 Face album.

i've listened to their first 3 albums over and over and over. i liked the debut the best for the longest, but i think HHNF can't be denied as their best. it's the most cohesive, they have some of their best verses on it (especially malice), and the neptunes were on some NEXT shyt with the beats

LB got a 10 in Scratch magazine at least. Yea they got screwed in so many ways on that album. Phonte jokingly said when they got signed to Atlantic that they should've called the album Blood In My Maybach.

The Fix is 5 mics to me. Compared to everything else that was dropping at the time. No skippable tracks on there. That's damn near a perfect album to me. 2002 was kind of a bad year for hip-hop, and Fx was definitely the best album that year I thought. Maybe Lost Tapes, but at the time that wasn't an "official" album.

It might be my 3rd favorite Face album. Even if you don't think it's 5 mics, surely you can understand why they gave it 5 mics, if for no other reason then they knew they fukked Face out of it in the past and wanted to make up for it.
