From the moment the console was officially announced, hell even before that its been a disaster.
let's just count the screwups so far
- allowed rumors of always online to linger damaging brand and perception to enthusiast early adopters
- TV centric unveiling showing minimal to no games
- Used game policy with phantom benefits Microsoft refuses to nail down but promises everyone will benefit from
- Microsoft cancels post e3 media press event which apparently suggest they aren't gonna go infront of the media and take questions.
- forced camera on console that invades your in-home privacy by doing things like head counts before letting you watch a movie. required to be on for console to work.
- console required to be online once a day to phone home if you want to play games.
- potential destruction of user ran secondhand market. unable to eBay or Craigslist games that require activation codes from big brother to work.
- compromised specs resulting in a weaker system further dumbed down due to bad chip yields
- when any public representative from Microsoft is asked a question by the gaming media about Xbox One they usually reply with a company line that has no real meaning or give confusing information
- Microsoft gives middle finger to indie developers telling them either get a major publisher to back you or go kick rocks
when the community comes up with negative connotation taglines like you're gonna get Xboned or don't get Xboned about your product and it hasn't even been released yet that's not good.
1. Rumors have absolutely no baring on the enjoyment one can have with an electronics device.
2. Before the unveiling microsft said they would concentrate on the console features, then show games at E3. I'm not sure why everyone was so surprised. On the flip side if they had taken an hour of their e3 conference to talk about console features then people would have complained as well. I'm mature enough to understand that the gaming business can't survive on hardcore gamers alone, so I have no problem with a company trying to attract more people.
3. People just ignore the benefits. YOU WILL BE ABLE TO SIT DOWN IN FRONT OF ANY XBOX IN THE WORLD AND SAY "XBOX ON" AND YOU WILL BE ABLE TO ACCESS YOUR ENTIRE LIBRARY OF GAMES AND YOUR PROFILE/SAVES THROUGH THE CLOWD. That's a big deal, and is well worth the installations/DRM
4. This is a rumor that has not been reported by any reputable sites. Also this does not mean they won't answer questions, or that that don't have another event set up.
5. This is just false. First off the camera can be disabled, second there will be no "head counts" before watching a movie.
6. How else could a system work that lets you play games from the hardrive, no disc needed?
7. Maybe, maybe not. This doesn't effect me either way and it will be INDUSTRY STANDARD so if you don't like it just quit playing games.
8. Developers have said the XBOX ONE is an amazing piece of machinery and on Par with the ps4. I'll take their word over a random neogaf poster.
9. Sony is giving the same answers. Apple as well, and any other major electronics company that is working on a big release. Not sure what the problem is here.
10. Without Microsoft indies wouldn't even have a space in console gaming. We will see how it plays out. But I'd much rather have quality tested and approved games than a bunch of shovelware like other open app stores.
Your final paragraph sums it up perfectly. All of the negatives about the Xbox come from the angry Internet community and not real features or facts. Microsoft has been the company that its cool to hate on for a couple years now, just like EA but The Sims still sold MILLIONS of copies, so obviously Internet outrage doesn't have much to do with the success or the quality of a product.
