Xbox is looking to open and acquire game studios

'We need to grow'

An oft-levied complaint of Xbox is that it doesn't have enough exclusives. The focus over the past few holiday seasons has been to grow the Xbox One install base -- which has worked, and seems set to grow again this year with the launch of the Xbox One X -- but now the attention has to switch to software.

Xbox head Phil Spencer makes that tacit admission in a recent interview with Bloomberg. "We need to grow, and I look forward to doing that," Spencer remarks. "Our ability to go create content has to be one of our strengths. We haven't always invested at the same level. We've gone through ups and downs in the investment."

What he means is that Xbox is planning to open new studios and to acquire existing ones. Spencer didn't mention any sort of details such as how many subsidiaries it's aiming for, what kind of projects they'll have, or when any of this will happen. All we know is that he wants more studios under the Xbox banner.

don't talk about it, be about it. scalebound's concept sounded fun and the trailer and game play looked dope yet they cut it.

they should acquire the rights to that star wars game visceral was working on and put that out. that'll give them credibility.

Capcom should be 1st and foremost on the list

That would give them legs in japan

So what they can basically have them be a street fighter developer. Microsoft pretty much aquires a developer to make one game that see revenue and nothing else. 343 studios just Halo. Turn 10 just Forza. Lionhead studios Fable. Black Tusk Gears. Microsoft has first party developers they just have them restricted to creating one franchise of game. Microsoft should have these studios take risks and develop a diversity of titles.

Don't even get me started on rare
