The original 5 was never interesting..when they broke comic records and left Batman/Spider Man/Avengers/Superman in the dust was when Storm and Rogue were the top two females, Magneto was going strong, Wolverine was still interesting, and the writing was very creative (Legion killing Xavier, Age of Apocalypse, stripping Wolverine of the metal, Stryfe maybe being the abandoned Scott son from the future, etc.

i disagree with that completely, even then thst doesnt change that they are the basis for all the x-men and the only one of them regularly featured was jean. they havent even tried with the more popular xmen.

Oh no..my man. Jean was never the key character when they made money. She was behind the sexy ones in Rogue, Storm, and Psylocke. They even push the Phoenix trope with her beind dead these days. Lol.

She and Maddie were key components in the series popularity. She was a part of one of the most popular story arcs in the dark Phoenix arc. Even now, being dead for years, when you think of Phoenix, you don't think of rachel, Quentin, or hope, you think of jean, that's how deeply engrained she is in the X-Men mythos. And when I was mentioning appearances, I was talking movies, because outside of Bobby the other 3 have been relegated to special guest star status, and that's damn criminal

The thing about Singer is this. The approach that he took with the first two movies was absoutely the right way to go in that era. Back then, people were burned after Batman and Robin and weren't ready for the likes of the Avengers, so patterning the look and feel of the X-men movies after more successful flicks like Blade and the Matrix was a smart move.

The problem is that they're still following the same formula nearly 20 years later. They're still pushing characters to the forefront because of star power and whoever's played by somebody. Too many key characters have been underutilized and not allowed to shine enough. They're still running around in black leather jumpsuits and casually killing off whoever they feel like without a thought towards the repercussions. There's no real cohesive game-plan or structure they're ultimately building towards, and the timeline has grown confusing and muddled as a result. They're almost scared to be comicbook movies.

The Fox X-men movies are competently made, but they're playing it too safe. It's very telling that their most successful outing (Deadpool) was the movie that they had to be dragged kicking and screaming to make. The bar has been raised since the era of the original X-men in 2000. It's time for a new take on the series that's a little closer to the source material. And I'm not even saying they have to go back to Disney :hubie:

I just want to see the team done justice as a whole, and not just some currently popular celebrity and their entourage.
Thank you for this articulate reply breh

The other thing that is a major issue is that Magneto is overused. He's a dope character, but he doesn't need to be the primary antagonist in nearly every movie.

They screwed up majorly by killing off most of the Hellfire Club (and Emma Frost), killing Apocalypse, and making Mystique good just because she was played by JLaw. Juggernaut, Sinister, and the Sentinels are the only other really noteworthy villains they have left without doing any serious retconning.

they need to get chis claremont in the writing room and he can collab with whedon. Singer has got to go though he doesn't get X-men. He fukked up the dark phoenix saga, days of future past, he fukked Apacolypse all the way up. I can't take Fox seriously as far as X-men movies go until he's not apart of them

He wasn't there to mess up Phoenix Saga.

Apocalypse needed two movies, there's no excuse for that. In two movies it would have been amazing, the problem is he likes to wrap things up in the same movie.

It's hard to see an "X-men in space" movie working.

I mean that's something that's fine for cartoons and comics but it's hard to imagine it working well on the big screen, especially since aliens have never been introduced in the X-men movies before. But that said, I'll still give it a chance. :ehh:
I'm in the minority but I don't want to see the X-Men interacting with aliens. Keep the stories grounded on Earth. They still have so many untapped earth based stories and villains to tap into.

So this is the Dark Phoenix Saga?

I mean it's going to be trash but it's the Dark Phoenix Saga so I expect nerds to pay even though they know it will be Basura.
