Does Sophie Turner's Return Confirm The Plot Of 'X-Men: Supernova'?

Does Sophie Turner's Return As Jean Grey Confirm The Rumored Plot Of 'X-Men: Supernova'?

I´m an avid movie fan whose favorite movie ever is Back to the Future. I´m the type of person that if I like a TV show, I´ll binge watch ...

Fox's new X-Men project, Supernova, has had us all scratching our heads as we desperately try to figure out it what it means for the future of the X franchise. So far, we know the story will follow the members of the core X-Men team in a new adventure. But other than that, there hasn't much else.

In fact, following the disappointment that was X-Men: Apocalypse, we had no idea whether the new cast of young heroes presented in said film would come back for a sequel.

Well, rest easy X-Men fans, because Sophie Turner has confirmed her return as Jean Grey for Supernova and her recent comments seem to support what we've suspected about the film's possible plot.

During a red carpet interview for HeyUGuys, the actress was asked about where she was going next. Here's what she said:

“We’re about to start shooting the next X-Men, we’ve just finished shooting Season 7 of [Game of] Thrones, and I’ve got a couple of movies to do before X-Men starts. And then we go on to Season 8.”

The takeaway from her confirmation in the new film is...

The Validation Of Supernova's Rumored Synopsis

Believe it or not, her statement lends credence to an alleged synopsis chatter for X-Men: Supernova that recently appeared:

“Gathered together by Professor Charles Xavier to protect a world that fears and hates them, the X-Men had fought many battles, been on adventures that spanned galaxies, grappled enemies of limitless might, but none of this could prepare them for the most shocking struggle they would ever face. One of their own members, Jean Grey, has gained power beyond all comprehension, and that power has corrupted her absolutely! Now they must decide if the life of the woman they cherish is worth the existence of the entire universe!”

What does her comment have to do with the synopsis? Timing. A synopsis is usually a sign that a film has a set structure. So Sophie confirming production would begin soon, just days after that popped up online points to the metaphorical wheels of the film going at a nice pace.

It also fits with what we've seen in the movies so far. The Dark Phoenix was teased in X-Men: Apocalypse. Considering its sequel might take place in the '90s (a decade after Apocalypse) it would make sense that the team members were close to each other by that point, and therefore wouldn't know what to do with a long-time companion gone berserk.

So it looks like Supernova is farther along in development than we previously thought.

I have to say, in an era where even plans to develop a property are revealed to the public almost immediately, it's nice to see Fox managed to keep their new massive superhero project a secret for this long. Hopefully, we'll be getting more pieces of the puzzle as Supernova enters production.

But for now, at least we know Sophie Turner is returning for the role.

It's hard to see an "X-men in space" movie working.

I mean that's something that's fine for cartoons and comics but it's hard to imagine it working well on the big screen, especially since aliens have never been introduced in the X-men movies before. But that said, I'll still give it a chance. :ehh:

I think they're overdue for a hard reboot with Lilandra, the Shi'ar, etc.

Since they're not going that route, I'm at least hoping they'll have more of a focus on the actual team.

If they just dumped Mystique (forget trying to make her the hero just because she's played by somebody :camby: ) and swapped out Quicksilver for a recast Rogue and Wolverine, they could have a dope little roster.

(Granted, I liked Quicksilver, but he's WAY too powerful to be a regular character. They'll be having to invent lame reasons to not have him around or able to act just so he can't solve all their problems in two seconds.)

Man of Steel and Guardians of the Galaxy already showed audiences are open to space stories if you try. This franchise is in need of a serious reboot and there's no reason it wouldn't work. It took Deadpool for them to actually utilize comic tyoe outfits. Singer and ol boy at Fox need to hand over to a producer and Director who's more open minded about the fantasy element. They barely focus on Mutants facing turmoil for who they are:camby:

He should have just left with Magneto after telling him he was his son in Age of Apocalypse :mindblown:
