My guess is that they want to distance themselves as far away from the coronavirus pandemic as possible. 2021 is very uncertain for live sports still at this point. Vince announced XFL two years in advance as well, so I'm assuming it just naturally takes that long to work out the deals, do key hirings and due diligence.
