I've always thought that the combination of UFC's emergence and the loss of WCW fans between 2001 and 2005 has impeded any growth.

Theoretically they should be getting more than 3 million viewers in America weekly considering the population growth and the fact that 10 million people were watching Nitro and RAW every week at it's peak but they've alienated old timey wrestling fans and kids.
