I think the key to this franchise becoming a title contender within the next 3-5 years is either getting a top 5 pick in 2017/2018 or signing Harden in 2019.

Do we think Richardson has that kinda potential? I like his energy on defense, but he doesn't do much as a ball handler.

I have no idea. That's what will make this season very interesting and exciting.

I know that at the very least, we'll have one solid 3 point shooter who can be a lockdown defender for years to come. I see superstar potential in Winslow though.

Who I'm really pulling for this season is Briante Weber as a nice backup for the future. I hope that Norris Cole isn't his ceiling.

I'm lucky I won't even be tempted to watch this season being up here now. If none of the games against the Knicks or nets are nationally televised, that gives a total of 13 heat games I would be able to watch this season, and I'm not looking to spend money to see a lineup this bad and especially not in a game against the Knicks or nets. This offense is gonna unprecedented levels of :scust:. Waiters, Wayne Ellington, Luke Babbit, Derrick Williams, at the moment Winslow still has to prove he's got value on offense. I don't even want to think what this team will look like if Whiteside misses any stretches of games.

Breh, we got some pretty fun talent. I don't think our offense is gonna be that boring simply due to the young legs and manner of players we got.

All the athletes, Dunkers, and defenders is gonna provide lots of hilarity/excitement so we gonna be kinda enjoyable to watch as long as expectations are kinda low.

To me, this is a development year. Things like Dragic's ability or renewed offensive purpose mean nothing to me because he's not in our future nor is he high impact enough to propel us into championship territory (Even though I think he's a great player).

So I Got my expectations set on things that might matter when our youth core develops. Can Hassan stay on the court or does he come across as fragile? Can his decision making develop to championship level where he can make the right decisions even as the defensive focus? Does he learn when to jump, block, position, and contest?

I already have high hopes for Winslow. I love high IQ, versatile players. I think he could beat a Draymond Green in a year or two but a superstar in 3 or 4. I just wanna see how he handles the increased responsibilities.

Find things to root for. They're there. Just temper your expectations.

On a lighter note, I think James Johnson might have a bigger off-court impact than we thought because he's the perfect offensive mentor for Winslow.

Johnson is a VERY polished scorer due to immaculate footwork and I think Winslow can learn a lot of things from him to help his ability to create for himself in isolation situations.

They have a similar build and a crafty mixture of old-man craftiness, pure strength, and skill.

If Winslow could incorporate a James Johnson-sequel bully/get into the paint game, a respectable three point shot, and tighten up his ballhandling...he could be better sooner rather later. He has the IQ to be impactful, no matter what.

Me and you share the same thoughts about this season. At the end of the day, making the playoffs is not important, it's all about Whiteside/Winslow/JRich developing and possibly getting a top draft pick.

So how long do y'all think we will be down before we rise again:patrice:

Depends on what you mean by rise.

We're not contending for probably 2-3 years but we have the potential to be REALLY fukkING GOOD in 3 years if things develop upwards. Like one explosive run to a finals good.

If Justise develops an offensive skillset that makes full use of his strength, high IQ, creativity in finishing, and positioning to be an 19-20 PPG scorer on freakish efficiency due to being a mismatch nightmare. You're also looking at All-Defensive team shoe-in with Draymond-lite versatility. At worst, Justise is that versatile Swiss knife that makes a great team elite (Draymond Green, Pippen) that just needs to be paired with an offensive all-star. At best, he's something like a mixture of Paul George and Kawhi-esque IQ.

Whiteside is, IMO, one of the most talented bigs in the league. I'm talking KAT and Davis tier of talent when you look at his talents, skills, and ability. He has an instinctually amazing reactions when it comes to timing, he's actually very good at seeing the entire court and spying developing plays, and he's shown flashes of being a defensive anchor when he's locked in and focused. His biggest flaws are things that come with more NBA experience and maturity plus getting used to playing with other NBA-tier athletes. It's why that half a second where he'd sink on the PnR catches him off guard or that Jonas could outmuscle him and create enough space out of sheer strength to make his length worthless.

Stuff like that and Whiteside's natural offensive instincts are top-tier. Whiteside has amazing touch, far more range than he's usually allowed to show, and he's capable of scoring out the elbow in the triple threat. I just think his biggest flaw is just decision making, focus, and how well his body can hold up. People think I'm blowing smoke but Whiteside has a lot of signs of being fragile and it's only more concerning due to Whiteside's style of play. But those blocks, jumps, dunks, and oops he likes to catch doesn't bode well with how many minor injuries he seems to rack up.

Etc.
