Cap went from a 700k advance to driving a hack cab in Baltimore :dead:

Very very solid ep. While Ghost wanted the full advance, Divine was the one meeting and negotiating with the suits. Managing a house full of maniacs, yes men, groupies, and weed carriers will tax the most rational sane man. His expression at the end said it all.

To be fair I see Rae and Deck's point. It did appear that Divine switched up and became an industry pleaser. Wu was hot, so he did have some leverage with the labels. But all he could see was the bottom line. Contracts can be renegotiated. Geffen was on some anxiety shyt, he could've told them to kick rocks and start a bidding war. Who didn't want to sign GZA? with RZA production? and an almost complete album? It's a no brainer in 95.

I guess the showrunner reallzed Dave East is too wack of an actor for him to have any role this season.

great ep. divine gets all the bad rep from wu members but honestly, hes the one working everyday while everyone else was loungin going out and just rappin for checks. Hes the one making the deals and talking with the labels. I couldnt believe ghost in that old wu doc saying divine deserves nothing he wants all the bread.

I wonder how involved he is today. He must do business of some sort with rza i wouod think but maybe not

Rae and dirty super out of pocket

Deck is right but wrong at the same time. Deck in the beginning wasnt doing the feature/mixtape thing the other guys like rae and meth did. Even rza was collabinf a lot pre forever. Deck didnt start til after forever with true master and above the clouds. He tried ti get on the dogg poind album but pac xnayed that when it came down to it.

For being like a main guy on the albums, i never understood how his career went that way. He lacks the charisma of the others but plenty of guys had solo deals with equal chrisma and less talent.

Cap on the other hand has a great album with the pillage but as we know now, cap can bring it but he freestyles mostly everything and his solo career went left after parting with rza. He has his moments, but conpared to deck…

Giving cap a 700k deal pre ironman off winter warz verse and ice cream/ice water when deck did cream being da ruckus wu/aint nuthin to f wit and protect ya neck is insane.

And as much as divine/rza tried keeping all these guys close knit under 1 roof, by end of ep we see vine is gon say fukk these guys. It cant be done.

And where the fukk is method man this season. What was he in 1 ep?

And gza was right. Liquid swords was the last clan solo to have EVERY member on it (sans cap)
Divine is still involved in the Wu-Tang company....he & RZA. The rest of them aren't under it anymore, and RZA has his own company(-ies), as well.

By the time RZA had Razor Sharp & Wu-Tang Records, to give Cap a deal, Deck had already inked with Loud so that pretty much sealed his fate. They were still gearing Deck up for the first solo after Forever, but Loud pushed the album back.

And Masta Killa's No Said Date has everyone on it. Actually, MK & GZA's albums are the only 2 to do so. Dirty & GZA not on Ironman, Deck & Uey not on Return to the 36, hardly anyone on Tical...matter of fact Dirty hardly pops up on albums....hell, Ghost not even on Immobilarity

I didn't think we needed a Divine episode, but it turned out to be one of the season's best. The writers did a great job of showing how success brings its own stresses, and Divine (the actor) did a great job of carrying the episode.
This is exactly what I was referring to earlier about wanting to know about the growing pains. We know the individual members were wilding out and all going through some shyt and making their own demands. You know members like Deck were wanting their own shine. On top of Rza being spread too thin. When complaining about the Rae and ODB episodes it wasn't about wanting to see the recording process but more where the clan members were as all this was going on.

Excellent episode that said a lot without explicitly saying it. I like them having Divine trying to handle all this business while feeling unappreciated for handling the business or the stress of being the exec trying to keep it all together.

Deck was already signed to Loud in 95. Loud was going to be sold to Sony so the album was delayed.

I COMPLETELY understand why Divine was so offended when the members asked to be let out of Wu-Tang Productions. After the work and hell he caught I would’ve told them each to kiss my ass too and get they behinds in the studio and make me some more goddamn MONEY the way these ungrateful suckas was acting.

I believe it 100% too.

Divine has the right attitude for management, where others would have cracked Hunter’s face open and tossed him on the nearest street corner, Divine used him to his advantage, and even had to swallow his pride and pay off the credit card bill.

He knows when to be firm, like with Rae, and he knows when to try a softer approach, like with Ghost.

He only messed up by playing Deck to the left too long. He should’ve done SOMETHING to appease him, of course you can’t force a solo deal but you gotta show him there’s a plan for him. Make him the official face of Wu-Wear. Get him some endorsement deals. Broker deals to get him on some more soundtracks. SOMETHING to show that his hard work is being “seen” and appreciated.

It’s crazy how the most undisciplined ones seem to turn out to be the stars. Ghost, in real life around this time, was a known dust head who was still whopping nikkas asses and in the streets. Rae is a hater supreme whose bad with money management. ODB is a live wire, drug addicted, unreliable fukk up. Only two who really popped and seemed to keep cool heads was GZA and Meth.

RZA was smart enough to be like:hubie: and take Divine’s advice and let Divine handle the “unsavory” parts of the business. Looks like he even moved out of the mansion by this time. RZA learned his lesson after having to chase ODB around town and said “fukk it”.

Cappadonna looking at that contract like:gladbron: was a great moment. Crazy how he ended up with one of the best Wu-tang produced solo joints but ended up driving cabs

to be fair.. THEY did tell deck to use his name on the Tales from the Hood soundtrack.. He said NO because he didnt want whens your solo dropping questions.. He hurt his own career to a point as well.

edit: Now that I think about, if he used his name and dropped a few more songs.. He couldve forced the hand and couldve pushed his album up.. He couldve had a dont be a menace song instead of ghost..

For the show, they've compressed the timeline, but GZA was one of the first signed w/ Meth & Dirty off the jump and had songs recorded way back, like the cut on the Fresh sdtk or Meth shouting out GZA on "Killah Hills 10304" back on Tical. But I'm sure it's just an exaggeration on the label stressing for a 4th qtr release while the Wu demand was at a fever pitch.

Dirty & GZA not on Ironman
Dirt doesn't do a verse but he's on the Marvel outro on Ironman

Deck was already signed to Loud in 95. Loud was going to be sold to Sony so the album was delayed.
Sony/Loud deal happened in 99...again, the show timeline is crunching all these factors in Deck's delay into this one year

Interestingly enough, for Winter Warz on Don't Be A Menace... Ghost (along w/ Rae, MK & Deck) appears courtesy of Loud. Cappa appears courtesy of Razor Sharp and there's another artist courtesy of Razor Sharp Records on that album:

Again with all the timeline stuff, realize you're seeing them condense the signing, conception, recording, marketing & release of all of these projects that dropped in 95 as all happening in the same year to condense the narrative and add to the drama of all this chaos and fast climb of the crew and put it all into the final season. The tour episode was kind of all the Wu tours combined & this was kind of all the label & contract drama combined.
