I understand where OP is coming from and I agree for the most part, but the reality is things have changed.
Folks really aren't into t.v. anymore and if they do like a show, they can grab it off the internet.
Also, why just television? There is YouTube, Vimeo, and Netflix. Get out here, make a show, and upload it there. Granted, Netflix might consist of pulling money out of the pockets. Promote it on social media, get them Instagram hoes a talking about it, get connected with Black blogs like The Root and The Grio.
Instead of always bashing the internet and social media, use that shyt to our advantage.
Far as ratchetness goes, ratchetness has ALWAYS been around since the dawn of time and will continue to do so. People need to recognize and accept that the internet has truly changed things. Pre-internet, a shytty singer/rapper/show had their fifteen minutes and went away. Folks never to remember. Nowadays, such people can turn that fifteen minutes into twenty-four hours.
However, an internet user still has the power. You don't have to concentrate on such people and give them clicks n' views.
Nostalgia can be quite cherry picking as well. It causes you to forget all about the horrible, shytty stuff. I can guarantee you, once we get old, we'll probably be talking about how 2014 was great and 2074 is just horrible with horrible youth. It's a continuous cycle. Get off the "wholesome, family" high horse mess as well. There never has been and never will be a perfected Cosby family.
All in all, great points made in thread, but we need to stop looking for folks in the big suits to create things for us. The internet is here, it's socially powerful, and can be used to create a serious moment for us.
