I didn't tell anybody to stop doing anything, you getting way too emotional over this :pachaha:
I'm all for that spreading out and broading horizons stuff, but at the end of the day it's nice to have something of our own and brings me back home. I can watch Big Bang Theory and bump Daft Punk with no problem, but I also want to be able to turn on the tv and see a program that relates to the very core of what i am. Which goes back to the basis of what this thread is really about
I'm not emotional breh. I'm just callin' you out on your BS. If any emotion, I'm feeling hilarity. You tried to present yourself as an authority and talk about something you didn't know about, as if the starting point of everything relevant to black culture was Pac and Big. :laff: It's language like yours that makes young kids ashamed to be who they wanna be; and that's why it's so many black c00ns and uncle toms now.

And there are a lot of TV shows like that cater to black people; you just don't like them. And that's fine. But don't make it seem like there ain't no GOOD black shows and love to outwardly speak down on the ones we do have; then be surprised when we don't got shyt. You're opinion/relativity factor isn't the epoch of entertain nor are you the end all be all. That's some self-absorbed shyt to think the black community's in decline because you (a singular person or even a few as a group) can't find something on TV that's like you.

It's crazy that black people couldn't see their image on TV back in the day 50-60 years ago, but were estatic about even having TVs with very successful families and children. Today, you all seem to need the most coddling of all (TV shows, music, magazines, etc.) as a support system and still can't get shyt together. Stop worry about this dumb shyt. :lupe:

Some of y'all are pretty much saying that only white people should be doing certain things when it comes to your mentality.

I guess only white people should be architechts, astronauts, doctors, scientists...because we black people is too cool for that!

Skateboarding? That's for white people.
Rock? That's for white people.
Jobs? Those are for white people!
Paying bills on time? That's for white people!

This sounds like some stupid "yessuh massuh" bullshyt.

Meanwhile black folks that do that stuff have to get called a barrage of names by OTHER BLACK PEOPLE just cause they like it...that's part of the problem.

Honestly, I've had my fair share of favorite black comedians, but anytime they got into anything like this it would just make me cringe.

Why must we devalue ourselves just to be accepted by the low end of the black spectrum and by white people who love to watch us disrespect ourselves to feel "superior" to us?
That's my only problem with the rhetoric being spewed in here. I fully get the point about globalization (but that's happening to everyone, whites as well, and not a black thing so don't make that our community burden).

But most of the stuff in here just reads like "Black wanna be white", which makes no sense because there's nothing new under the sun the black community. Since we been able to do it post-Civil Rights movement, we been doin' it! Only people it's new to is those that don't know.

True, also television and film is based on how much revenue something will generate. You never really see legit black tv shows/films because the few that come out in the past 10-15 years, rarely get supported. "Good Deeds" and "Daddy's Little Girls" are the two most positive films Tyler has ever done, yet it was the lowest grossing films he did. George Lucas financed a good portion of "Red Tails; many begged black folks to see it, yet the film barely turned a profit. "Second Generation Wayans" was a legit black show, that averaged less than 2 million viewers per episode.

So, although tv/film isn't catered to us, it's important to support the few shows/movies that paint us in a good light.
LEGIT WACK, that's why nobody watched lol

Spin: What happened to movies starring kids?? Home Alone, Sandlot, Cop & a Half, Curly Sue, Mighty Ducks, etc??

I'm talking about rap & r&b music sounding like techno music now (RZA called it back in 2000)
I'm talking about the time when black people set the fashion trends, not followed them. nikkas didn't start the skinny jeans look, but they sure hopped on it. I don't recall Rakim, Kane, Big & Pac biting skateboard cac fashion and all the kids doing likewise, but it sure happened with Lil Wayne, Kanye and all these light voice nikkas and the ones that follow them
How does R&B and rap sound like Tecnho now?

I have to disagree with the topic. I can name several shows right now that have significant black casts or major characters that are black. It's a good thing if we don't have those all black shows. Many of those shows were caricature fests with c00ns. Martin was funny, but at the end of the day it was a display of ghetto behavior. My family doesn't act like that. My friends don't, either. I think black depictions have generally grown more progressive in television and not as c00nish. Look at treme. The wire. Walking dead. At the end of the day, we are Americans. We don't need "black shows" to feel proud of who we are. And it's time for us to get away from that mentality.
Ghetto behavior

What in the hell are you talking about
Most of the shows you posted were c00ning as well...
How so?

I swear that word needs to be banned
Man do we have some comedians that can write and carry a good show now? Kevin Hart is a c00n comedian so his ass aint the one.
How is he a c00n comedian?

The word needs to be banned

It is so misused and over used on this site

Yo know damn well what e mean by c00ning and ghetto. I'm talking about black characters that use Ebonics, act shrill, and don't display all that much culture. The anti-Cosby type character. That's who hart and other so called black comedians like him act like. I don't want that image of black America broadcast. And if it means having less shows, but continued representation on other shows, so be it. That's a good thing. A lot of black entertainment has contributed to how other races feel about us. Until I see steady progressive depictions of black people in so called black entertainment, I won't care about it.

Word, back in the day a celebrity appearance was something special because they were out of reach most the time. Now you go on youtube and see 1,000 interviews of somebody and their life is broadcast to us all throughout the day through social media. Back when Michael Jackson was arguably the most famous person in the world you only actually saw or heard from him like 5 times a year outside of his music

And I think a large reason why the black sitcom is dead is that white America isn’t interested in the “other side” anymore. They know how black people are, there’s no coolness or edginess in black culture to them anymore. They got their fix from the 70’s-90’s, and now the goal is to just phase black culture out and turn America into the new Europe. And that’s what’s being done with hip-hop & r&b and clothing and entertainment. They’ve gotten black people to sound like Europeans, dress like Europeans. Love homosexuals like Europeans. Phase the hood out, and now Harlem, Brooklyn and DC are starting to look like San Francisco

Black folk done it to themselves, sad to say, We went to the Rockstar route with Jim Jones, we went to sound like valley CACs, and we were phased by how CACs even lived. Plus we stagnated and stop innovating, thinking that the world owed us a favor simply cause we black and lived off of reputation,

They didn't bite white culture. They took the corniest white shyt, from the preppy look to classical music, and flipped it into their own culture. When white dudes try to dress like us, they look lame and awkward. Justin bieber type corny. So it is clearly our culture they are trying to steal. Whether it's Macklemore or or some wannabes in the burbs, whites have and continue to try and mimic us.

We are still the trendsetters of popular American culture. And that's one of the reasons we are so hated. They oppress us. Deny us jobs. Imprison our men. Keep us poor. Yet, we STILL inform them on EVERYTHING. Dress, music, lingo, etc. the soul of black people is very real. We were Kings.

I really am terrified to see what the future of America will bring. I've never admitted it before, but I am now.

America in the future is more than likel gonna resemble Idiocracy

Worse than idiocracy, IMO. We gonna raised kids off of reality TV and porn over quality cartoons and good children's programming. When the likes of PBS gets eliminated, you know there is a way to fukk up our kids for the sake of money.
I made a thread about the Apollo last month...

http://www.thecoli.com/threads/how-did-showtime-at-the-apollo-fall-off.174716/

Saw a video on def poetry jam a few weeks ago and considered making one around that one too...........

the systemtic dumbing down of "black" people is in full swing.

Yep, they want us talentless, c00ned out, and ignorant.

It was Dipset that started that skinny jeans nonsense. They wanted to dress like Jamaican dancehall artists and wanted to be more "fly" acting like Rockstars in the hood. Everything else, I agree. I blame the fact that they removed the instruments and the church from our culture and we promote the club more than anything else.

Nah, kids just aren't interested in live action childrens comedy movies anymore, most box office receipt show it. Cartoons and CGI packed kiddie-action films are were it's at today, I suspect because kids nowadays are overstimulated due to constant television and video games.
