I thought austin/taker at summerslam 98 was good, not 5 star match quality but far from horrible
Especially considering Austin got KO'd a minute in and spent the rest of the matched concussed while Undertaker walked him through the entire thing.

:mjlol: HBK was a 9 year vet at that point. They didn't mesh well because they were both super bumpy heels who had weak/no offense. They were too similar.

See the difference between the Shawn that faced Bret in 92 and the one that faced Bret in 96. Much different. When he first started as a singles he wasn’t as good as Marty.

Regal/Raven from Invasion is still one of the worst matches I’ve ever seen by two good wrestlers. A total stinker.

Brother vs brother matches are always trash beside Bret v Owen, when brothers should have the most chemistry

Steiner vs Steiner wasn't booked that well, but they had a lot of in-ring chemistry too

Sting vs Bret Hart comes to mind. Sting was in a horrible place mentally at Havoc 98 and Bret wasn’t really Bret at that time either but it seemed on paper like they’d have had a better showing vs one another.

Perfect vs HBK makes sense being mentioned. both of them are best selling and fighting from underneath. Somebody has to hand out the ass whooping. Neither is really known for that

That's a good example, I thought Havoc 98 would be epic. Bret can say what he wants about how they used him, but he worked 98 Booker T, DDP, and Sting and had no good matches.

The HBK/Bret matches in 1992-1993 are better than the iron man match tho. HBK was not some rookie when he feuded with Mr. Perfect experience levels definitely not the reason why those matches weren't better than what they ended up being.

HBK was using a backdrop as his finisher back then, he was still green as a singles competitor. His full potential was realized in 94 after the ladder match

:skip:

How is a backdrop as a finisher an example of him being inexperienced and green when his next finisher he would use for 20 years was even more basic

It's blatantly obvious why Perfect/HBK didn't mesh and it has nothing to do with "being green". And it's not a slight against either guy. They were just too similar. Had the same strengths, same weaknesses, and therefore had very little to play off of each other.
