It makes perfect sense if you have someone undefeated for over 3 years against a big star like Ronda. WWE has no big money first time matches to realistically top Mania next year with. I mean Nakamura hasn’t taken the superman punch yet but that’s about it.

You don’t inherently need big first time matches to sell the show. Just matches the crowd wants. In 2001, the three biggest matches were TLC 2, undertaker vs triple h, and rock vs Austin. We had gotten the first tlc match at summer slam and the three teams had the triangle ladder match at Wrestlemania the previous year (in fact those 3 teams had collectively been feuding since no mercy 1999), while rock and Austin faced off at Wrestlemania 15 and the following month at backlash 1999. In 2010 the three biggest matches were Cena vs Batista, Edge vs Jericho, and HBK vs taker again. None of these were first time matches either, but they all felt important and were ones the crowd could get invested in. Right now there only seems to be one potential match that could have the crowd hot for it.
