I could see it being billed as one of the main events but not the show closer

The triple threat match with her Charlotte & Bcky comes to mind they had Sasha & Charlotte faces plastered all over everything for Mania and it was billed as one of the top main matches on the card and they treated as such.


Auska with her Goldberg undefeated streak vs Charlotte or Sasha I could see main eventing mania. Can they keep Auska undefeated and fresh until next year mania or will they run her into the ground and make her stale.

It was inevitable. With Ronda, I guess they feel like they have a big enough "mainstream" draw to anchor a potential women's main event. And hell, even if Ronda proves to not be that big of a draw anymore, they'll still treat her like one as we've seen with Brock.

Business-wise, it makes sense. Women and young girls are the market where WWE is, to my knowledge, actually seeing growth. They also happen to be one of the more lucrative markets for any entertainment product. You got to follow the money on these things. I also expect to see the women take up more spots on the card next year.

My only problem is I doubt they will take steps to rehab the women's divisions. 2017, overall, was a terrible year for the women on both Raw and Smackdown.

People were walking out before and during the main event in 2016. Women main eventing pay per views isn’t even a bad idea, but to so heavy handedly force feed it to the crowd solely to pander and try to get good publicity is just shameful. They always have to market it so heavily as if nobody has ever floated this concept before. Women have closed shows before in wrestling and in the octagon. If they’re over enough to warrant it, go for it and don’t make the fact that they’re closing the show your selling point. It ruins the immersion to make that a big deal. Let the story being told be the contest between the people competing. It doesn’t need to be anything else. If a feud has the crowd hot even if it isn’t about the heavyweight title, that’s all that matters. When trish and lita closed out a taping of raw for the women’s title, it wasn’t marketed as historic since a women’s match hadn’t closed the show before. The feud between the two was all that was needed, same as when Rey Mysterio and Matt Hardy closed out a taping of smackdown over the cruiserweight title. An organic build always works best.
