Cowens was 6'9" and wasn't a fraction of the defender that Draymond is, and Boston still won the series. You say they were doubling Kareem but the only player on the court for Boston over 6'6" was 6'7" Paul Silas.
So even prime Kareem could be beaten in a series defended by a 6'9" white guy with help from even shorter white guys. And we're not talking prime Kareem, we're talking THIRTEEN years later when he was 39 years old.
Also, it wasn't that hard to double the 1987 Lakers. Their top-7 were Magic, Cooper, Worthy, Scott, Kareem, Thompson, and A.C. Green. They aren't like the Warriors who are going to splash a three on you the moment you double anyone.
