Would you still game as much as you do if AAA gaming died?

Would you still game much as you do without AAA game releases?

  • Of course, i love games, i actually enjoy indies more than AAA

  • Eh, I’d still game but not nearly as much

  • Naw, I’d probably find another hobby

I'd draw the line with high budget, team size, whether it's a first party title or not, graphics etc.
The costs for these are extremely variable, lying between that of an indie and a AAA game.

There are not many concrete details available about AA game marketing budgets but they are between those of indie and AAA games, but usually a lot less than the latter.

Again, detailed data is not exactly available for AA games.

AA games fall in the middle

While data is not easily available for AA games, going by their budgets, their threshold lies between AAA and Indie Games.

so somewhere in the middle :patrice:

Better to reign in Hell than serve in Heaven
Say from this point on we only get indie/AA budget games, so stuff like Hades, Vampire Survivor, Pentiment, Kena, Stray, Enter The Gungeon, with maybe the biggest budget stuff being stuff like Life is Strange, Sifu, It Takes Two, etc?

I think max dev budget would be something like 25-30m a game.
Out of all that, SIFU would be the only one I'd play.. And I have it at home, and never play it, cause the AAA gonna win every time

While I like plenty of smaller games/indies and the like, I still like plenty of bigger titles as well and generally are more excited for them than the former. So if AAA gaming died, while I'd still game, obviously my gaming would decrease some since a good half of what I play would no longer exist. Simple math really. I doubt that I'd completely replace all AAA games with smaller games, so I'd just game a lil less, I suppose.

AAA games are the worst thing about modern video games so very little would be missed.

I prefer the big AAA games, mostly.

The indie games bring unique concepts and are often fun to play but I enjoy massive games that I can focus 200+ hours on, one at a time.

Oblivion, Skyrim, Witcher 3, Horizon, Elden Ring, Assassin's Creed, Red Dead etc.

Smaller games are good for when there's a drought and there's no AAA game worth playing.

Depends. There's no way I'd stop playing. But AAA still gave us crack like Red Dead, Ghosts of Tsushima, Mass Effect, Final Fantasy, Elder Scrolls/Fallout, God of War, Elden Ring, and more.

I think there should be LESS AAA games per year. But I don't think taking them away would be good. But the AA games like Persona, Armored Core, basically all fighting games, and more have closed the gap on what makes a "good game".

AAA graphics are often trumped by great art direction. Persona always does that and Hades is doing it again as well.

Nope. The overwhelming majority of indie games don't do it for me. Can count on one hand how many I've enjoyed over the last five years.
