Would the world be better if we all subscribed to Evolution and Religion did not exist?

I don't say "religion is the cause of all problems"

I've never claimed that.

BUT I don't see the point of overlooking religion's influence or therefore thinking that its not worth addressing.

Parents not going to PTA meetings hurts communities too...but I don't think its THE most important thing ever, nor does not talking about it mean that its any less important.

Like I said I paraphrased you

If you didnt say that you've said something similar

It is not a set of principles it is a scientifically valid theory. No part of the theory of evolution implies that there is hierachical stratification amongst humans, Napoleon is right, you're thinking about eugenics which is not scientifically valid.

You wouldn't organise a society around evolutionary theory in the same way that you wouldn't organise a society around paleontology.

Are eugenics and social Darwinism not a product of Darwin's Theory of Evolution?

They are a product of the misapplication of it. Does that mean evolutionary theory itself supports those notions? No

Exactly.

So if we apply that same reasoning to Religion and how the wars, violence, and terrorism are a product of the misapplication of it. Religion in and of itself does not support those notions.

Which in fact is the point of this thread.

You have to understand that most of them really don't believe in evolution. So they attack people that do have a true belief system.

Well the fact is many religions CAN legitimately be used to justify war, violence and terrorism especially when their holy text are read literally.

The Theory of Evolution CAN legitimately be used to justify racism when applied literally.

We have reached a stalemate

No it can't and no we haven't. Science is not principle. It does not ask you to do anything it only presents a hypothesis and the evidence that supports it, nothing more. Evolution can only be used to justify racism if it is applied unscientifically and once removed from science then it is useless.

It does not command, it does not suggest, it does not cajole and it doesn't moralise. Religious texts do these things.

No, we have to continue to question, to learn more, and continue to put the pieces together when we get new information. Changing one religion to another form of religion (faith in theory vs. religion) wouldn't help anything. There's a lot about the world we don't yet know and that which we'll never know.
