Would The Old Boy Remake Have Been Better Received If Spike Lees Name Wasnt On It

Just saw this on Netflix. It's wasn't great, but it was good entertaining movie. The og is still better, but reading some of the reviews of the remake. People Nitpicking about every little thing about it. My two only gripes about the movie was the main villain, and Sam's character being over the top.

I liked it and looked up the reviews after and knew it shouldnt be a 5 and chalked it up to cacs gone cac

There was 0 promotion. And hardly any theaters were showing it. Thats why it failed. And most people didnt know it was a remake and never saw the original so that didnt matter. the movie was good though.

You don't shyt on one of Hollywood's most beloved stars. But of all the people to criticize Spike really picked the wrong guy to bytch against though, Clint made Flags Of Our Fathers which was largely about the discrimination of Native-Americans and white-washing history to omit their legacy in the war. It always seemed kind of stupid to me to criticize a man who made a movie about that for not including token black people in that movie.

Oh, and for the record, the studio did little no marketing because they wanted to bury the movie. Spike and Brolin have both said that the original cut was almost an hour longer and both were shocked to see how badly the studio ruined it by cutting it to pieces, and wouldn't promote it. In response the studio was like "fukk you too, Spike" and dropped all the marketing and basically forced it to flop so they could get their money back though back door Hollywood-accounting.
