I think the majority of folk can acknowledge a competent remake, this was anything but. You're already fighting a losing battle if you try to tackle a film that's anomalous and translate it for mainstream tastes, in the effort of capturing the same tone, you create the exact opposite. You digest the OG, because the intended humor acts as a coping mechanism that helps you deal with the hard to swallow, disturbing, obscenity and deliriousness of it all - whereas you cringe at the remake in the same manner you would when a white dude thinks he can dance, when really he dances like a white dude.It was a good movie still. I think some people are just remake elitists. You cant win with those type of people. Old boy is a good film but it aint all LLAAAAT. Both were good films though. When that rich cac went on the killing spree bodying his family i was like
Id rather talk to someone who never saw the original, but judging the ticket sales, those were the only people that saw it. All the other white people read spike lee on the header and 'd that assI think the majority of folk can acknowledge a competent remake, this was anything but. It doesn't help its cause when Min-sik is a 1000000000000000x better actor than Brolin.
movie was good, if u think its terrible then obviously you're a stan of the original.....the only thing it really did wrong was the villain was too over the top everything else was pretty good....to answer the question tho no it wouldnt have been any different whether spike was behind it or not....for one the ppl who loves the original didnt want it touched and wouldnt give it a chance right out the gate, secondly not many ppl even know about the original so they didnt know wat they were in store for story wise and lastly the marketing was absolutely awful for it (that may actually have been because spike was behind it)
You go into films with a bias because you're one of those guys who feels special being up on a movie few people have seen. You cant be sold on remakes no matter what.I completely disagree and laugh when people say silly shyt like this. I loved Infernal Affairs and was pissed when I heard about The Departed....didn't care who was acting or directing it.
Now I actually like the Departed better than Infernal Affairs. It just did it better IMO. Old Boy remake simply was not better than the original.
It may not be super well known but it has been on netflix damn near permanently for a long time and is ranked in imdbs top 250 so its not super obscure. The one I saw last year was subtitled but its been up long enough another poster said he saw a dubbed oneYou go into films with a bias because you're one of those guys who feels special being up on a movie few people have seen. Except the only reason anyone gave a shyt about the remake was BECAUSE of the original.
Except most Americans knew nothing about the original.
The only reason people DIDN'T give a shyt about this was because of Spike.

Nope he did a great job. I'd say the action her sequence may have been the weakest part because it looked like a play. Everything else was intriguingIt was
Wouldn't have made a difference. Broilin sucked as the lead.
