movie was good, if u think its terrible then obviously you're a stan of the original.....the only thing it really did wrong was the villain was too over the top everything else was pretty good....to answer the question tho no it wouldnt have been any different whether spike was behind it or not....for one the ppl who loves the original didnt want it touched and wouldnt give it a chance right out the gate, secondly not many ppl even know about the original so they didnt know wat they were in store for story wise and lastly the marketing was absolutely awful for it (that may actually have been because spike was behind it)
Spike lee is not in charge of marketing care to explain the correlation :ld:

Nah, the whole story wasn't going to translate well to American cinema. This doesn't have the stench of 'cism like Miracle at St. Anna, but Spike has been involved in some pretty big Ls at the box office. For almost 20 years, Spike's films were always events for black people. I wonder how well "Da Sweet Blood of Jesus" will be received because since "She Hate Me" Spike's live action movies have been panned by damn near everybody.

Nah the movie was good. I just think cacs were mad that they had some rich incest family where the dad was piping his son and his daughter, so there was a backlash. My wife and i were enthralled through the entire film.
The dad was fukking hus son and daughter?

I loved the movie visually and Brolin gave a great performance but it was a paint by the numbers remake and Spike didn't bring much new from the original. With that said, the Hammer Hallway scene from Spike's film improved on the original, the fighting was more crisp. But Yea Spike is very controversial so audiences are polarized by his films cause of how out spoken he is. That doesn't mean he's not a brilliant film maker. Also Spike isn't done, most of his movies never broke the box office but they also don't always cost that much. He's basically like Woody Allen as far as box office.

It translated very well considering how prevalent incest is among aristocratic families. It was interesting in this film because the boy wanted revenge on Brolins character for teling the school that his sister was fukking his father and in reality he was fukking them all, and thy all liked it. I think it was a peek behind the veil of white society which is why the film wasnt pushed. But a film like Precious is lawded.

30 million dollar budget and only made like 4 mill.

Fewer people then you realize saw the original so im not buying it being the fact that noone wanted to see a remake. No one even knew what this was. The movie just wasnt talked about at all.

This was one of the biggest box office FLOPS In Thanksgiving History. 30 million dollar budget that only made 4 million dollars. Spike is officiallly done after that. This was actually a good film, even if you saw the original. Still has that mysterious air about it. Is this the type of film that should have had a cac's name attached to it for it to be successful. Did the Spike Lee association damn this film before it could even take off.
Nah.

This was the worst remake in recent memory.

It was a good movie still. I think some people are just remake elitists. You cant win with those type of people. Old boy is a good film but it aint all LLAAAAT. Both were good films though. When that rich cac went on the killing spree bodying his family i was like :ohhh:
