I said that it is fukked up how she lost her life over this shyt. I never defended the killer at any point. People tryna kill me over something that I honestly believe in. Tryna find a solution and people want to kill me for it

This is heartbreaking. I feel for her family. Last week a man walked up to me at the gas station and was asking for my name and number. I hesitated for a sec and then just gave him some random digits. Mind you it's a little after midnight and we were the only people there besides the store clerk. I just want you guys to realize this is why catcalling is SCARY for women. I know a lot of guys on here were saying we should be flattered, it's not that serious, get over ourselves, in that catcalling/street harassment thread but almost every girl I know has a story of being physically harmed by a man for rejecting his advances, whether letting him down easy (because men are not adults..they're children we have to coddle, right?) or just plain ignoring him. I, along with my roommates keep headphones in our ear as an excuse not to engage these males.

A lot of black women have mastered the art of the bytch face, not because we are mean but because if you look happy guys will try to talk to you relentlessly, most of which only wanting quick disposable sex, when we look mad nikkas just tell us to 'smile' and go on about our day.

You guys can dismiss this all you want but some day, your female relative will come home with a story about being pushed down and raped because she told ol boy outside Jack in the Box she had a man. As men it doesn't register to you guys because you are all so much bigger and stronger than women but at any time, WE could be raped and killed. We don't want to engage just any males, especially off the street. Now he might look cute, drive a nice car, but the average woman ain't caring what dude got on..we just want to get to our destination SAFE.

YES. I would also add that catcalling is kind of scary for any woman who was raised conservatively or modestly. You spend your childhood believing sex is for marriage or for a chosen few in your life and that sex and sexuality is shameful until you're older. Then all of a sudden you grow up and develop sexual characteristics, but You're not used to seeing yourself in a certain way and even if you're a sexual person you still have those values that you shouldn't publicly out your body or sexuality. So, when a man cat calls you you feel a sense of shame, embarrassment, disgust with yourself. Some women enjoy the catcalls, but I'm telling you all that most women to a certain degree feel uneasy. Especially if you're alone and introverted.

Sexually aggressive or assertive catcalls are the most unwanted. If a guy just asks for your number that's better than asking for sex. However you have to be able to turn them down. You can't oblige every man who makes a pass on you. It's not your responsibility to thank him for finding you pretty and then give him an essay or a smile while you gently put him down. Should women be rude to nice guys? I don't know, it depends. IMO ignoring is the best way to pass a group of men that you don't want to engage.

Why is it our responsibility to make sure a guy doesn't feel slighted by rejection? We have lives too, things to worry about. Why do we need to worry about a stranger's ego? I get that you don't want people to be rude. But don't you guys understand how self important it sounds to ask all women to be overly obliging to strangers who only want some sexual act from them. That's ludicrous..

The only way to make this comparable to men is to ask you guys to think of gay men catcalling or following you or doing the things we all talked about . It's unwanted and you didn't ask for it. Why do you need to oblige these strangers?
