I think you have @The Real mixed up... he is one of the fairest on team atheist/agnostic by far. I don't think he's trying to flip the script and just outright accuse you of hypocrisy but I actually understand what hes saying. There are plenty of direct commands from Jesus in the bible along with his actions that you're supposed to emulate that clearly outline something contrary to what you may have said in this thread.

While I have to extend tough love to our 18 year old dead friend, I don't think it makes very much sense to use our own sense of morality which may be based on Abrahamic values, and then ignore those same values in a more direct fashion when disdaining compassion. I don't blame the kids for roasting her just like I don't blame her for killing herself. It all to me seems like a blameless and senseless tragedy.

Fair points.

I think friends are leaving this thread with more understanding than they came with. Or maybe the work/school day is over and people are driving home.

The hot system that we're born with is the innate reaction to move our hand when we touch something hot, sharp, painful etc. It's to do with our nervous system.

When I mentioned brain development, it was in relation to metacognition and maturity, beyond what we're born with at birth, or develop at the tender age of 4.

Breh let's be real here. No one in this thread really gives a damn about shawty one way or another. They using her to push their own narratives and societal ideologies. I agree with everything you said so far but think its really wasted in this thread because even though it looks like it no real discourse is actually taking place but rather people attacking others and using this dead girl as a parameter to do so. :shaq2:

I don't think you understand the hot/cool system very well. It's basically saying that we react quickly/instantaneously to pleasure or pain. You just highlighted the two words 'systems' and 'developed' and tried to argue that our emotions are developed the day we're born. By your logic, we're all emotionally stable/developed way before our toddler years.I guess babies/toddlers can weigh up all their options systemically, all in their favor using their hot/cool system..

No, no that is not what it means.

Its saying mechanisms regulating impulsive behavior is developed in the womb and those rational decision making and delay of impulse BEGIN to develop at 4 and is fully fleshed before 25.

Looks like you're switching your argument.

Okay, where does it say that it's 'fully fleshed before 25?' At what age then? If you just Google brain development/maturation age 25, you'll get many hits and reputable articles that show the number of developmental researchers who have unanimously agreed that 25 is roughly the age when our brain fully develops.

What age do you suggest? Link, please.
