How hard is it for the teller to look and see whatever note was put on the account when the money was first held?
There's the problem. She went to multiple banks to withdraw large amounts of cash."I went to two banks before that, drew $8,000; drew $5,000; no questions," she says. "'Just swipe your card and enter your pin, ma'am.'" Then her car was totaled on May 24, so she went to get another $5,000 at the branch in Dearborn. "
We can agree to disagree. I think race and perceived class are also variables in how she was treated, especially given that they had already put the money on hold when it was deposit to verify it's origins.
Going to different branches pulling out thousands of dollars is a classic red flag for money laundering.
Getting upset when someone asked you questions (understandable) and then going to another branch is a HUGE red flag that somethings not right is going on.
Having 50k wired into you account another huge red flag of money laundering.
So she withdrew $13,000 and didn't pay her rent
Bank of America has billions in deposits. They don't need her money. They're concerned because somebody who probably makes $10 an hour and had less than $200 in her account yesterday suddenly has $50,000 and withdrew more than 25% of it in a couple days You sound emotionally involved, which is understandable from your story. You not even supposed to be walking around with $13,000 on your person. Police would automatically assume it was gotten illegally. If Redneck Roger who makes $8.00 an hour at Wal-Mart suddenly had $60,000 in his account and withdrew $20,000 in a week, his account would get flagged.
Your experiences have to do with race. Her experiences have to do with suspicious activity. We have to learn how to stop defending everybody because they black. She probably had $10 in her account one week, then $50,000 in it the next, and withdrew $13,000 in a few days. It's a red flag. I've never had this experience with my bank (TD Bank) even when I was a broke college kid with no job suddenly having thousands from refund checks. There's likely some variables we don't know about with this lady.

i find it hard to believe a bank would go through all that for less than 2k... This is the internet so who knows how factual your story is.My personal experience trying to withdraw less than $2000 when the money had been there for a while (despite having a driver's license and a passport) tells me otherwise.
Never had an issue getting an inheritance? or just being rich and using a bank?Let's not use logic here
It was racism. Even though there are hundreds of rich blacks out here with millions who never had an issue.
None of this shyt yall spewing makes the process even remotely right or principled..... Once the money is verified....... she should be able to withdrawal whatever amount she pleased, regardless of withdrawal intervals..... period.....

It's great that they don't need her money. If and when this is cleared up, I hope she chooses a different banks. Also, she didn't or wouldn't have had $13,000 on her person, and she had clearly been able to withdraw large amounts previously AFTER the money's origins had been verified.
We can agree to disagree on how they would have handled this with a white person. You sound out of touch, which is understandable given that so many people think we are post racial.
