In what he says will be the final fight of his 19-year career, pound-for-pound king Floyd "Money" Mayweather (48-0, 26 KOs) is not taking any chances against former WBC/IBF welterweight champion Andre Berto (30-3, 23 KOs) on Saturday, Sept. 12 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, live on SHOWTIME PPV (8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT).
Mayweather will take his WBC/WBA world titles against a man who almost everyone views as a huge underdog.
Berto has gone 3-3 in his last six outings. Back in March, Berto knocked out Josesito Lopez in six rounds.
When Mayweather named Berto as a possible opponent in June, everyone thought he was joking to hide the name of the actual opponent.
Mayweather is not taking Berto as a joke.
"I'm ready to get back in the ring on September 12 and prove again to the whole world why I'm 'The Best Ever,'" said Mayweather. "I always bring my A-game and this fight against Andre Berto is no exception. He's a young, strong fighter who is hungry to take down the best. Forty-eight have tried before and on September 12, I'm going to make it 49."
Leonard Ellerbe, CEO for Mayweather Promotions and personal adviser to Floyd, says the entire arsenal of skills will be needed to defeat Berto.
Money' Mayweather is back and the whole Mayweather Promotions team is ready to build off of the incredible record-breaking May 2 event," said Ellerbe. "It's a pleasure to bring this great fight, plus the incredible undercard of action, to the fans in Las Vegas at MGM Grand. Andre Berto is a powerful fighter who presents a real danger to Floyd. He will have to use all of his skills to slow Berto down."

SHO Exec Says Berto 'Legit Threat' Despite Huge Odds

In his last fight against Manny Pacquiao on May 2nd, WBC/WBA welterweight champion Floyd "Money" Mayweather generated 4.4 million pay-per-view purchases.
His upcoming fight against Andre Berto, on September 12th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, is expected to do much less. Some insiders are doubting whether the fight can break a million buys, especially with a little more than a month away from the event take place.
Some of the oddsmakers and betting sites have Berto as high as a 80-1 underdog in the fight. Berto has gone 3-3 in his last six and stopped Josesito Lopez in six rounds back in March.
A victory for Mayweather would match the record of the late heavyweight champion Rocky Marciano, who retired in April 1956 with an unblemished record of 49-0.
Stephen Espinoza, Executive Vice President and General Manager for Showtime Sports, confirms the upcoming fight is the last on Mayweather's six fight exclusive agreement with his network.
Mayweather says the September fight will be the final ring outing of his pro career.
“When Showtime Networks and Floyd Mayweather teamed up for the first time in 2013, it was called a record-breaking deal – and that’s exactly what it has been,” said Espinoza. “Through five fights of the six-fight term, the results have exceeded our grandest expectations."
Many fans are not pleased with the selection of Berto and expressed their displeasure on the social networks. Espinoza is not worried about the negative reaction. He expects Berto to make things interesting when he steps in the ring.
"Floyd has never hesitated to take on the best of the best in his division. In Andre Berto, Floyd has chosen an opponent who always comes to fight and always entertains. Berto’s power and athleticism make him a legitimate threat against any opponent, and against Floyd, we expect Berto to be as aggressive as ever," Espinoza said.

The building up of Andre Berto as a legit opponent/threat, instead of an easy opponent as Floyd called him, is gonna be hilarious these next couple weeks
80-1 underdog fighting for the Championship
They would be better off just building this fight as Floyd's last and rarely talking about Berto, because I swear, if casuals see any of Berto's last 4 fights, they are gonna be like
Stick to talking about Floyd riding off into the sunset and how he's accomplished everything in the sport. Dont try and build Berto into something he's not talking about Floyd "will have to use all of his skills to slow Berto down" or how by fighting Berto, you are going to "prove again to the whole world why I'm 'The Best Ever'"
Just get in there, do your thing for the last time, and walk off into the sunset 49-0 while praying/hoping Cuenca eventually loses.
