I love the argument that Championships don't mean anything come down to some ridiculous Webber/Horry type comparsions. Listen everyone knows Webber is better then Horry rings mean nothing in that comparsion but how do you not take it into consideration when your looking at someone like Ewing/Olajuwan two of the better C's both played for contenders at the same time yet only one won championships.

If your a good player who consistently on contenders and never wins that says something to me. Comparing Jordan to Kobe the rings comparsion fits not if your comparing Allen Iverson to Steve Kerr see what I'm saying. Marino will always be looked at as one of the best Qb's he didnt win anything it's really in the context of the argument if it holds weight or not.

And the sport matters as well. In basketball there are only ten ppl on the court and your star player can play the entire game and win it for you on his own. This is not the case for any other sport.

So much context gets lost in these ring arguments that shyt becomes real cloudy and stupid.

i was just gonna say the exact same thing when your comparing greats thats what you go to.but when comparing the 6th 7th man to a starter dont make a good convo.regardless of what people say when you talk about greats you talk about chips point blank champions make their teams champions. And i do think Marino is the best qb of all time that i ever watched and he had teams that couldve won but just got out played.doesnt mean he's not a beast but think bout it he has records that other qb cant say they have but when one of them say "well i got a ring":comeon: but that can only come from another top qb though.

There is no doubt in my mind that Dream was better. However it's not his ring total that tells me that, it's his individual performance that tells me that. Dream won rings because he had some of the best clutch role players of all time. Cassell, Smith, Horry, Maxwell were money in the clutch. Same can't be said for Starks and co. If there is no change in Dream/Ewing's indiviual performances but Ewings guys came up big in the clutch and Dream's don't you telling me that would make Ewing better?

Like you and others have said you cant' ignore the context. Rings are more so about circumstance than individual greatness, no matter how great a player we are talking. Even the best of the best need to be in the right situation.

Hakeem is just better, you dont need to look at rings.

But for instance Peyton > Brady even though Brady got 2 more rings

How did "he" get outplayed? You think if he was on SF and Montana's overated ass was on the Dolphins then the outcome of the game is different?

Marino is the goat QB and dont got a ring. Rings=meaningless

just like the overrated eli outplayed brady.to me eli made that extra play that his team needed to win and thats what montana did.I said also i think Marino is the best have have always said that. You can be the goat and still lose though all it take is one play from the other team which could be outta your hands but still your team was out played by the other team doesnt mean your less of a player.

Saying rings are meaningless is going too far, but at the same time you can't put too much stock into them.

It really comes down to being able to watch the games objectively.

The difference between the players would have to be negligible for me to bring rings into the argument. Off top I cant think of a time Ive ever given someone an advantage cause of rings.
