This whole time I thought he had a 7'2" wingspan
Rondo has a crazy wingspan too..6'9
I'm reading up on Pippen and folks saying he had a 7'2' or 7'3' wingspan
It's because of Wikipedia and several poorly cited articles (maybe even a book or two, I'm not sure) written about Wilt that people think he's got a 7-2 wingspan. I've got 2 printed sports articles from 1966 and one from 1968 I believe that cite Wilt's arms as spanning 91 inches and that video with Muhammad Ali where they show him being measured spanning 92 inches. That's 3 sources that give absolutely zero indication that Wilt was a T-Rex with a pewny 7-2 wingspan. I was reading wikipedia discussion board on the Wilt page and apparently people have tried to change his armspan to 7-8 several times but Wiki editors keep changing it back to 7-2 and when they cite the source to the youtube vid the wiki-editors say "that source is wrong".
Kansas University has a chart that lists Wilt's armspan as 7-2, I think that's the primary source of the error today, And I don't think Kansas numbers should ever be trusted because the same guys from Kansas say in video interview that Wilt had a "101" armspan (cant even keep the story straight...), I think they just took the 7-2 number from a poorly written old article that I turned up from the 1950's (when Wilt was still in HS) that said Wilt's arms spread out more than 7-2" and that he jumped "higher than 24".... great, so according to that one 1950's article where the journalist basically just guessed figures of Wilt's size or athleticism the trickle effect happens and now nearly everyone has written at some point or another that Wilt had 4" less vertical than Larry Bird and 3" less wingspan than Dwight
Aint nobody gonna call a man "Goliath" and aint no man gon score 50ppg with a 7-2 wingspan and 24 inch vert
