EA saw that marketshare threat and was like fukk that. Upped the ante on their previous attempt to buy the license, NFL "opens" it up for bidding (like EA was gonna be outbid on their own idea), and that was it for NFL game competition.

The internet is what ruined Madden. The games have always been crap. Remember 01 when there wasn't over the shoulder catch animations. The only difference is now the operation sports Madden thread is 200 pages deep with flaws that you probably wouldn't have noticed and when you play online, your first game will be against some b*stard with too much time on his hands who has figured out how to cheese by audibling from punt formation. Everybody loved Madden when it was just you and your folks playing within the bounds of reasonable play.
