I live in the United States
Madden 05 was nowhere near as advanced as 2K5. 05 was a great game but 2K5 was the first football game with a true qb pocket, ol/dl interactions, and a true running game. Madden had super Defenses, 30 yard passing pockets, and mario running. It didn't compare on the field. Madden had a better franchise mode but 2K actually had a real salary cap.
Madden had the better more realistic game, period. Madden did its own thing, 2k was trying to compete with Madden, not the other way around. As for the presentation, thanks. I was on the 2k beta teams (football/basketball) and the one thing I was preaching to them since 2k1 was presentation. Players stopped in between each play, I pointed out how that had to change. They changed it :manny:

Now the way any MAN can tell your not a real football guy? You mentioned how 2k had a real salary cap. We're playing video game football. Why the fukk would anybody wanna deal with bullshyt like salary caps? I used Miami in Bill Walsh College football, why the fukk would I wanna deal with womanly office work when I'm trying to deliver a pigskin to my opponents ass? Something doesn't add up here, real men don't worry about bullshyt, we care about actual gameplay first...
i still believe if 2K wouldn't have dropped the price so drastically because Madden was slaughtering them in sales we would still have two major football games instead of just Madden. the NFL had to feel like 2K was cheapening their brand be being so cheap.

in a way though i really don't see the issue as EA hasn't put out a basketball game in years and 2K basically ran them out of town there so there's only one hoop game too and since The Show is made by Sony there was only baseball from 2K.
NFL had no issue with 2k, Ea did. So they paid a HUGE amount to get the exclusive rights to make sim NFL games on consoles. 2k lowered there prices just to compete.. And still lost. The passing was horrible. The running game regressed IMO...

The only way this can change is if WE, the fans, a ton of us write a letter to Roger Goodell/the NFL and explain how Madden does "not represent the NFL brand in the best light.....the games dont function properly, EA isn't truthful....blah blah blah, it shows the NFL in a bad light...... please give us consumers the option to choose from multiple NFL products and better alternatives"

Ultimately we know the NFL doesnt give a damn about anything as long as EA's check is clearing, but maybe something lame like that would get their attention. All they really see is the hype surrounding Madden, the ESPN features on Madden, the commercials.....they don't know it plays like garbage for the most part....andI dont know if they care

EA will retain the exclusive and here is why:

Both Roger Goodell and a big shot rep from the NFLPA did IAMA's on Reddit.com. Goodell completely ignored the Madden question and complaints. The NFLPA exec defended it.

Madden isn't going anywhere. It's too bad too.

Reddit Question said:
George, I wanted to ask you about the madden exclusive license. Do you plan to end this soon? The the 9-yr exclusive license ends this year and the fans are sick and tired of not having a choice of picking a nfl game to play. Madden is becoming stale and the community wants 2k sports to have a chance to make video games again. Nfl 2k5 was the best representation of the nfl to this date.... Please make this happen Mr. Atallah. Thanks for your time

George Atallah NFLPA said:
We have an agreement with EA and Madden. I have heard some opinions like yours, but honestly, EA is one of our best partners. I know they hear some of your input as well and work to improve the game every year.

Reddit Question said:
Sorry Mr. Atallah, but I will not purchase another ea nfl licensed game until the consumers are ale to have a choice again. The consumers should be in your best interest sir.

George Atallah NFLPA said:
I'm sorry to hear that. One thing to clarify though, my job and the job of the NFLPA, is to ensure that the players' interests are top priority. I know that might not be the most popular answer, but it's our mission.

The really funny thing about that last answer is that the NFLPA sued over the Madden agreement back when it was signed. I guess "best interests" change.

Many more raised their concerns and posted their complaints. But that's the only two he responded to.

And here goes Goodell dodging the Madden question
OwenSGood comments on IAm Roger Goodell, NFL Commissioner, AMA

He definitely saw it and chose to :cape: over it. It had some of the most upvotes at the time. And he answered questions asked before and after it.

:yeshrug: We ain't never getting back NFL2K ya'll

The way these video game companies are dropping franchises and pushing for higher margins there's absolutely no way 2K would be developing a football game on the low. If Madden ever lost the exclusive it would take at least 2-3 years for 2K to have a game ready/worthy for the market.

NFL2K5 is considered a better game by anyone who isn't a Madden fanboy.

2K5 outsold Madden on the XBOX. It was Top 10 best selling of 2004 and Top 10 (or 15) best selling XBOX title of all time. That trend would have only continued into the next generation on the 360.

The PS2 had a much larger install base and it only made sense that Madden would outsell 2K on the PS2. People who buy Sony products are largely lemmings, to begin with. Brand whores. Type of nikkas that would buy 'John Madden Top Chef 2013' or a 'Sony Doorbell' :heh: Another large chunk of PS2 buyers bought it as a cheap DVD player and picked up Madden because they wanted to look cool. :birdman: And whatever is left are the nikkas who picked up 2K5.

Handhelds, PC and the Gamecube only padded Madden sales numbers. 2K5 was XBOX/PS2 only. It still did respectable numbers. To quote a Madden developer at the time "it (2K5) scared the shyt out of us."

The NFL licensed football game franchise landscape would have looked a lot different right now if EA hadn't made that grimey move. 2K13 would be dominating on the XBOX 360.

You gonna tell me why or refute anything you quoted

I think it's called Burden of Proof.

Then you go on this long rant about something I mentioned last as a fun fact

Making the salary cap real meant in Franchise mode you couldn't stack up a super team like in Madden. That was more real than being able to throw a pro bowl squad out there by the season 2. Be well-versed in all aspects of the game not shallow and ignorant :umad:

Court might not be a real person. I'm starting to think dude is a corporate interest forum defender. And he works for a company that hires people to post online with a mission to defend certain brands. He'sjust horrible at it.

To be fair, Madden 05(or on PS2 in general) was probably better than NFL 2k5 in terms of GAMEPLAY ONLY.

But the fact that 2K5 put so much into commentary, camera angles, graphics, presentation, the highlight stuff etc. completely blew Madden out the water back then and STILL blows them out the water nearly 10 years later.

It's almost like they trolled EA Sports on purpose to show everyone(the consumer) what was possible.....if you actually really put effort into ur product.

Madden jumped the shark in 06. The devs couldn't make the transition to the new gen of gaming systems. They came out the gate weak.

Their week efforts bolstered by exclusivity. fukk EA.

Yup. EA can't stand competition and they got their asses handed to them on the NBA titles (like NBA Live no longer being around). It would have happened to Madden too if the NFL2K series came to the PS3 and 360.

TYRONE GA!
I'm a madden stan, but I thought 2k5 was better. They EASILY had the best trench gameplay out of any football game which is where shyt needs to start when building a game.

EA saw that marketshare threat and was like fukk that. Upped the ante on their previous attempt to buy the license, NFL "opens" it up for bidding (like EA was gonna be outbid on their own idea), and that was it for NFL game competition. They even punked MS out of making NFL Fever by allowing EA games on Xbox live if they did :heh:
