It is straight up physical gifts and athleticism that has gotten him to his far. Dude has a motor and he has heart and desire. Basketball skill wise, I can't even say he's a one trick pony. He dives into the lane like it's a mosh pit and shyt just happens.

I think it was Chris Broussard that said that the difference between neutralizing Giannis in the regular season vs the playoffs is that in the playoffs, players will be willing to take those charges whereas in the regular season, they'll slide out of the way.

Trap/blitz the 1-5 pick and roll (to get the ball out of CP hands, make him a passer, and not a shooter/driver)

Switch the 2-5 pick and roll with Book and Ayton, with Portis (Portis can actually move his feet, or blitz that Pick and roll, force the ball out of Book's hands)

Make Crowder/Myles/Craig, hit shots.

Clog the paint.

Giannis plays the 5 in the 2nd quarters (go small ball when Ayton goes to the bench) and switch all pick and rolls, clog the paint.

Lopez needs limited time this series unless he's being used to blitz/trap the 1-5 pick and roll in the 1st quarter


Buds need to try a big line-up. Portis and Lopez can be in the game at the same time. Giannis and Middleton at the 1 and 2.

Bucs are playing Lopez and Giannis together when PHX goes small - this is the right approach. Lopez needs to be on the court as many minutes as possible. He was key to their defense last night. Giannis wasn't moving too well laterally for parts of the game. If they play Giannis at the 5 too much Phoenix will happily take those Ayton minutes and win.
