Majority of Scorsese's filmography isn't mobster related

Right, but ask anybody to name his movies and these are the 1st ones they are going to say. Nobody is going to say the color of money or brining out the dead.

Oh shyt :pachaha:

I don't know if this is true or not. Maybe it is. :manny: I'm not a "put my head in the sand" type of dude when it comes to us.

All Im saying is that rap = modern day MINSTREL SHOW.

you are aware of what a Minstrel Show Is right?

I know you do. To sit and act like rap music (which is the most popular artform in the world) doesn't have an impact on our collective image is highly ignorant of us, ESPECIALLY when the vast majority of it portrays us as criminals, drugdealers, pimps, etc

The whiteboy in that video felt comfortable enough to make a video like that because he knows he's not seen as a threat to society.

He doesn't have the world's most popular artform telling the world that he's a menace to society, even tho cacs are capable of being as violent, thuggish as everyone else.

Say what you wanna say about these other groups, they take their image seriously. We don't.
I agree with everything you said.
but were doing it to ourselves.
If you look at how young black folks move were copying the rappers and the rappers are copying us

Its sad

Sounds to me like you don't understand the importance of "image". Seems like black men are the only group who doesn't care about their collective image as a group.

No other group of men are constantly having their image demonized and criminalized to the world like the black man. If you are a black man yourself, you should know this.

The black man's image has been reduced to gangbangers, thugs and drugdealers. That's damn near the DEFAULT SETTING of a black man in this society.

Your post suggests that I care about what others think. I don't. I barely interact with "other's" period. But that's my point .....I have a bigger picture. I think about us as a collective and I ABSOLUTELY DESPISE our collective image.

Sad that I seem to be in the minority.

These whiteboys and Asians who listen to rap don't have the same image problems as the average young black male.

I want you to take a look at this video:

It's a whiteboy prank video of him fukking with people at an ATM.

If a black male did this same prank the cops would be called or he would even be killed due to paranoia by the person he's doing the prank on. The whiteboy can get away with doing pranks like this because he's not viewed by society as a "savage".

Rap music has destroyed our collective image. Crazy that we as black people don't see this.

This is facts but Black people hate being held accountable so you’re gonna get much pushback.

Yea bro. I was in the gas station last week and this young brother probably no more than 16-17 was in front of me waiting to pay.

His whole butt was out from sagging his pants. :snoop:

I wanted to say something to him so bad just on some big brother ish but usually sagging pants comes with a bad attitude so I kept it moving.

But sometimes I think that people like us SHOULD say something. Just take him aside and respectfully plant a seed In his head about how dumb and immature it looks to walk around like that. Walking around trying to look like a rapper will get you NOWHERE FAR IN LIFE.

But yea bro, it's sad.

I love this talking point :wow:

Do you know what was used to throw gasoline on top of race relations in the past? 2 words: media propaganda.

Back in the day before rap music existed , they were performing Minstrel Shows to showcase the most negative stereotypes of blacks to the world.

At one point in time , Minstrel Shows we're the most popular artform in America. It portrayed blacks as violent, lazy, hypersexual, and overall threats to society. It absolutely played a large role in brainwashing the masses into hating and fearing blacks. And this was by design.

Hell, the early 1900's film "The Birth Of A Nation" was the main reason the KKK reassembled:

How 'The Birth of a Nation' Revived the Ku Klux Klan

You seem like too smart of a brother to not already know these things so I'm not trying to offend you.

Ultimately what I'm saying is that rap music took the place of Minstrel Shows. It is currently the driving force being used to JUSTIFY the inhumane treatment of blacks.

And my ultimate gripe with our image isn't about how it makes the rest of the world feel about us ..........but moreso how it makes us feel about ourselves and each other :francis:

Your state of depression isn't offensive to me. I refuse to internalize the hate.

No one can justify mistreatment in my eyes. I don't allow it, I don't allow my family to go through it. That's why it's so important to learn our history in this country.

If you're not tutoring or mentoring somewhere I just can't honor the way you view other Black men. Your immediate concern was how we're viewed, not how we are doing. Obviously you're going to switch it up now, but before you were talking about "image".

go work in any american middle school and see if you think hip hop doesnt play a teerible influence on black youth.

My sister is an educator, she has never once in all our conversations ever pointed to the music kids listen to as a source of problems. It’s shytty parents and dysfunctional homes that are the problem.

How we are doing is directly tied into our image, that's my point bro. A positive self image is one of the most important things a people can have and black people's overall image is in shambles compared to others.

I want you to image a young brother whose trying to start his own business. A business that may require him to be at people's homes while they aren't there. (Landscaping, working on roofs, etc). This young brother is going to have a harder time gaining clientele simply because of his skin color. His white, Hispanic, asian counterparts are going to have it easier because they aren't automatically seen as thieves/ criminals like the black guy. People are going to hesitate hiring a black guy being on their property because of the negative stereotypes. This happens ALL THE TIME!!!

Our ability to move in this society individually and on a collective basis is made harder due to our destroyed image. I'm really confused why this is so hard to understand. Other groups get it.

You would never see a Joowish rapper rapping about killing and drugdealing. That rappers music would be scrubbed from the internet and he would be forced to apologize to his community. He would be looked at as a traitor to his people.
