These tech companies fukk their workers by making them sign noncompete agreements.
It's ridiculous....just poach some Apple talent already
Let me try to explain this again:
I've been using iTunes for nearly a decade now. I have an iPod Classic that I mainly use in the car (this is how I listen to music 90% of the time), and an iPod Nano that I use in the gym (how I listen to music 8% of the time).... Streaming with Google Music would only be used 1% of the time.
When I, uhh, acquire music, I add the file to the folder, and then to iTunes, then add individual songs to playlist(s) if applicable.
My complaint is that I don't want to have to do this for Google Music as well. Especially since I keep my music on an external hard drive, and I almost always have to fight with it to automatically upload into Google music so that it even recognizes the new music.
And the metadata issue which I'll post examples of in a sec...
If I could get one program that handles both cloud music and physical storage I'd be
I imagine iCloud does this, but it ain't free, thus not worth it, since I'd only use the cloud portion 1% of the time.
Make sense?
Well, I want it to automatically update. I may get a new version of a song (better quality, no DJ, etc).
If it's pointing to F:/My Music but then I insert the drive tomorrow, and it's G:/My Music Google Music can't do anything with it. Then if I point it to the G:/My Music folder instead of scanning and seeing I added 3 songs, it tries to upload 17,000 songs
So do y'all not have iPods?
For the record, there is no desktop program. That's kinda the problem. All they have is a glorified script which can scan a particular folder and upload music whenever files are added to that folder, automatically. All of the editing is done through the browser or a mobile device....in the cloud.
What I'm referring to in regards to the playlist is the fact that I use iTunes for my iPod. So when I get new music, I update those playlist...I'm not trying to have to update Google Music playlist as well...that's a pain the ass...especially when I have to fight with Google Music
Then there's the metadata issue (title, artist, album, track number, etc). I have all that info filled in through iTunes, cuz I want to keep my music in order. For whatever reason, that stuff doesn't always translate to Google Music and there's no easy way to edit it after the fact. So I have many albums that won't play in order or will omit songs....fukking annoying.
Google......music? What?
This. Btw, the Xbox music service on the windows phone and windows 8 is phenomenal by the way. You're doing yourself a disservice by not giving it a shot. The same service gives you access to unlimited music on all your M$ services.
Just give your external hard drive a dedicated drive letter so it stays the same when you plug it in. This can be done in disk manager in Windows.
Here's a guide on how to do it
Change, add, or remove a drive letter
The problem with your metadata is that you letting ITunes tag your music which is a mistake. I tag all of my music myself (yea I'm a bit of a Nazi when it comes to music tagging) with tag and rename (album covers, artists, album name, genre) that way I can upload it to any music program and everything will be the way I want it no matter what I use.
Google music is a little cumbersome at times but it's clutch. I don't see what the problem is though. If you have all of your music on an external just make a special folder on your pc and drop the new music in there and let it upload it to the cloud. After its done just cut and paste it to your external drive.
iPods?
This dude is a retard. You have to sync Google music to update it. Go to setting then hit sync. It does it automatically if sync is not turned off

You have to realize that you're comparing a program that's been out for over a decade and a service that's been out less than two years. Patience, Google Music will get where you want it to go
Google Music works fine for me. I add a song to a playlist in Itunes, it adds it to the same playlist on my phone.
The phone app does it's job for the most part but it is incredibly buggy at times.
