Will Google ever fix Google Music and make it into something that's actually useful?

I'm so ready to dump iTunes (which I actually like a lot) and move into Google Music fulltime, but that whole setup is clunky and makes things nearly useless.

I have no desire to maintain a second set of playlist, I need one set of playlists that can be accessed across all devices and the cloud. Right now, editing metadata in Google music is too laborious. Ditto updates...I keep all my music on an external HD...if it my computer doesn't assign the same drive letter (which to my knowledge is not in my control), then Google Music won't update. What a pain in the ass.

I know Google is big on the cloud, but they gotta realize that there'll always be a place for physical storage, so they need to develop an iTunes-like program to compete.

Sometime Google just amazes me with their fukups in terms of consumer products. :snoop:

agreed, but I never use the desktop program so :win:

not sure what dude is referring to in regards to playlists though. As long as you're using music that comes from Google Music, your playlists sync across all devices

So do y'all not have iPods?

For the record, there is no desktop program. That's kinda the problem. All they have is a glorified script which can scan a particular folder and upload music whenever files are added to that folder, automatically. All of the editing is done through the browser or a mobile device....in the cloud.

What I'm referring to in regards to the playlist is the fact that I use iTunes for my iPod. So when I get new music, I update those playlist...I'm not trying to have to update Google Music playlist as well...that's a pain the ass...especially when I have to fight with Google Music

Then there's the metadata issue (title, artist, album, track number, etc). I have all that info filled in through iTunes, cuz I want to keep my music in order. For whatever reason, that stuff doesn't always translate to Google Music and there's no easy way to edit it after the fact. So I have many albums that won't play in order or will omit songs....fukking annoying.

:what:
the playlist works fine for me. any changes I make to my playlist is updated to the cloud no matter what android device im using.
:what:
are you uploading songs that are "untitled" to Google music? i have zero problems with metadata with non-bootleg cds that i rip to my computer, then upload to Google music. title, artist, album, track number information is correct on my library without me doing any editing.

BTW im don't use ipods or any apple device. im goog set with all my gadgets and Google music sync flawless with all my android device.

Well there's your issue breh. Stop fukking with iPods :heh:

If you have Google Music on your phone, why would you own an ipod anyway? :dwillhuh:

Let me try to explain this again:

I've been using iTunes for nearly a decade now. I have an iPod Classic that I mainly use in the car (this is how I listen to music 90% of the time), and an iPod Nano that I use in the gym (how I listen to music 8% of the time).... Streaming with Google Music would only be used 1% of the time.

When I, uhh, acquire music, I add the file to the folder, and then to iTunes, then add individual songs to playlist(s) if applicable.

My complaint is that I don't want to have to do this for Google Music as well. Especially since I keep my music on an external hard drive, and I almost always have to fight with it to automatically upload into Google music so that it even recognizes the new music.

And the metadata issue which I'll post examples of in a sec...

If I could get one program that handles both cloud music and physical storage I'd be :ahh:

I imagine iCloud does this, but it ain't free, thus not worth it, since I'd only use the cloud portion 1% of the time.

Make sense?

@R.E.N. Spells Ren you could cop a Samsung Galaxy Player and flash ICS on it :whew:

What is this? Like an Android iPod Touch? If so, I'm not interested in having another device to carry around. That's the major advantage to Google Music, for me....I don't have to take up space on my phone for Music which I rarely use (and then, of course, being able to access it across multiple platforms).

Almost the only time I use an MP3 player is in my car...and it stays in my glove compartment and I control it from the head unit.

:what:

iPods? :childplease:

I'm not gonna stop using iPods, and neither will 90% of the population. I use an iPod, cuz that's what my Alpine has an interface with.

If Google just developed a competent desktop program, they could cut HEAVILY into iTunes market share in the MP3 buying game. They're fukking up here.

i think you can disable automatic upload and specify which folder to be the designated upload folder. have you try that?

Well, I want it to automatically update. I may get a new version of a song (better quality, no DJ, etc).

If it's pointing to F:/My Music but then I insert the drive tomorrow, and it's G:/My Music Google Music can't do anything with it. Then if I point it to the G:/My Music folder instead of scanning and seeing I added 3 songs, it tries to upload 17,000 songs :noah:
