I actually memorized the Quran which is fard, and then went on to aqeedah/fiqh and actually studied the text. I'd highly suggest any Muslim to do that.

Yeah, that's exactly why I went and learned about Islam. It's the simple principle that you bear witness that there is only one God (tawhid), Allah, and Muhammad is his messenger. That's the shahada that you gotta say if you're gonna convert.

Sorry, I don't mean to correct and be a pest but memorizing the Quran is not fard. Fard is also "Wajb" which means obligatory, and it's not obligatory to memorize the Quran. Memorizing the Quran from cover to cover would make you a Hafiz.
