Unfortunately no. If it's not an indie drama about white people problems (American Beauty) then the Academy's not checking for it.

I've noticed that they let Action and Adventure movies cook in the technical categories as a compromise.

This. End thread. This is why I prefer the Saturn Awards.

I don't understand why it doesn't air on TV.

Cause they know no one will watch breh

:dwillhuh::comeon: So folks wouldn't watch a prestigious award show for the best genre movies & TV shows?

I'm not saying it should get a Sunday night Big 4 Network TV spot like the The Golden Globes, The Emmys & The Oscars. But it should definitely get a Saturday night basic cable spot like the SAG Awards gets.

MAYBE nominated.....but no way any of them are going to win. None of them really aspire to either, so why should ANYONE care?

the best picture awards are typically reserved for dramas, not action flicks. pictures that lean more towards being a "film" than a "movie".

but should a superhero movie really be competing with - or be held to the same standard - as a serious drama?

in that regard no superhero movie has ever been good enough to win best picture in the first place.

Marvel Studios would have to have a different writer/director than Whedon. I could see the Russo brothers directing something very special but they'd need a tighter script.

Snyder and DC would probably never win. Snyder would have to tone down the action some. They did hire Chris Terrio to rewrite Batman v. Superman so that's a start. If you are hiring award-winning writers that is half the battle. Then you just need actors that can pull it off and a competent director.

Exactly my feelings. You get a high caliber pedigree behind the camera and it may happen. But then again, some people said Skyfall should've gotten one and it had high caliber behind the camera and in front of it and couldn't muster anything outside of technical noms

:duck:What director could come on & The Academy would start respecting superhero movies?

None. That statement is such a cyse.

Let's say for example Tarantino did a superhero flick. Not saying it would happen but he's done out of the box stuff before so let's say he did. You telling me the academy wouldn't pay attention?

No diss to Nolan breh but Tarantino has a lot more juice with the oscars and in hollywood. He's got three films nominated for best picture, he's been nominated for best director and he's won a best screenplay award. Anything the man does, voters pay attention to and are willing to give it love even if it's against normative sensibilities. The man got a spaghetti western nominated for best picture breh...a spaghetti western

Mravel couldn't do it with there current formula. DC could if they hit with there symbolism and capitalism on the internal struggles of their Heros. No chance with marvel tho
