It's pretty clear why they "lost" though. No stanning required. Xbox was a means to an end to control the entertainment in the living room to Microsoft when the Xbox One came out. The focus wasn't on putting out the best gaming console possible it was on using Xbox to sell other things and have it be some living room entertainment hub.

Also Xbox has always had a throw money at a problem to attempt to make it go away policy vs throw money at the most competent people possible to succeed.
