He was good in the NWA. Remember he was a horseman when he first started. Then he had a run with Barry Windham as tag champions which got him over. Then he was holding it down for the faces along with Sting and Dusty Rhodes and others.

Vince dropped the ball when he went to the WWF in the 90s with those corny ass characters they created for Luger.

I never know how young or old the TSC is, so pardon if I come off as condescending.

The first thing yo have to do is remove the words "Nitro", Narcissist", and WWE from your image of Lex Luger...imagine a different time, an era of big men like Stan Hansen who swallowed up in-ring wrestlers by choking, punching and smashing them.

Now imagine a guy who is chiseled, yet he can run the ropes.

When Luger was in the ring he would show bursts of energy and emotion that you don't see anymore. He would bounce off of the ropes (in the style associated with 80's Southern wrestling) and literally look like an NFL linebacker ready to kill you.

He didn't plod along, he burst, and that distinguished him from the heels.

Every slam and clothesline evoked power. He could also keep you "un-bored" with his submission/rest holds.

These were the NWA and early WCW days. Good times to be a wrestling fan.

Before he got lazy Luger could actually work, did power moves pretty much effortlessly which was/is fascinating to kids and women especially. Dude was torture racking 400/500 pounders weekly at one point. He was easy to root for

Yea, lex went hard. His clotheslines werent even called clotheslines. They were called lariats. Wrestlers that really sold their offense were usually pretty popular. When Vader was hittin nikkas with them forearm shots to the head that shyt had me like damn, hes gonna kill that wimpy guy. Heh, what we used to call the non headliner wrestlers. Wimpy guys.

The dude looked the part. He looked like a star. He had the "it" factor

I liked the Narcissist gimmick. Didn't like the finisher though

In WWF this may have sparked his popularity

This Week in WWE History: July 5, 2010 - Lex Luger - YouTube

This was right after Hogan left (correct me if I'm wrong) I guess they were trying to push him AS the next Hogan :manny:

This though

Lex Luger vs Hollywood Hogan WCW Nitro 08/04/1997 - YouTube
:wow: that pop at 9:00, Luger at his peak in WCW? :ehh:

Luger could have reached the next level if they would have let him keep title for a while after beating Hulk. Don't know why he was always so over. Maybe it was the muscles or the associations with Sting and Flair.

Honestly, he was one of the most well built up faces during the NWO run. He was the ONLY guy that was fighting "the good fight" the whole time and was a constant threat to the NWO
