So what the heck is going on here?

I’ve never been to Texas and have no plans to go. So I can’t pretend to know.

Are the metros not enough to make the state of least competitive? Could a Latino Dem be enough to draw from all demos to win?

The metros are majority Republicans. The inner-cities might be Democrat but the Suburbs are majority Republicans.

Dallas-Fort Worth for example.

Denton County, Colin County, & Northern Tarrant Country are the tax base powers that control all of DFW metro area.

So is Austin just a mirage? San Antonio and Houston are more Republican heavy?

I think an even bigger reason perhaps is that the GOP gets Assad margins in the panhandle and Eastern Texas. Abbott got 90% of the vote in a bunch of counties.

San Antonio is very demócrat but Houston (Harris and ft. Bend) just became democratic. So the purple theory holds some weight but it might not happen quickly.

Voter turn out in Texas is also pretty Terrible. Both parties still have a lot of votes to win over
