Had HBK stuck around during that time, he probably would've been a cancer to a bunch of guys, and at the rate he was going, he would've been murked on the outside of the ring, whether due to drugs or someone actually killing him. Him getting injured and being forced to take off was better off for both Shawn, the WWF, the fans, and other wrestlers. We never would've gotten matches with Angle, Hardy, Shelton, Flair, Jericho, etc. HBK's injury was a legit blessing from all sides, and this is coming from someone who considers HBK a #1 all time favorite.

The Rock promos are incredibly corny. Always have been. He has very good charisma so he pulls it off but his content is lame as Cena's. Only time I truly enjoyed the Rock on promos was during his Hollywood Rock run. Other times he's had his share of good moments, don't get me wrong, but it always came off extra corny to me. Austin promos are probably the best in wrestling history. He's the perfect balance of seriousness and comedy without relying on lame shyt like "Fruity pebbles" and "lamas anus" jokes. He at least right up there with Flair, Anderson, Foley and Jake the Snake

Only time Rock was close to Austin in popularity when they were BOTH around was actually his run in between the Nation and the Corporation. All that face run leading into Survivor Series 1998, The Rock's cheers matched Austin. Sometimes even louder. Besides that Austin was always more popular when both were around.

It's not all Austin though...it was the Mike Tyson thing that put Austin in that spot to be the lead dog anyway. So if Austin is being revised now to have "made" the Rock from the Youtube 2016 wrestling generation who don't remember shyt off hand, then those who can will just say, Tyson saved WM 14 and fans stayed with the Austin character afterwards. Everything Tyson touched on PPV was making money..before prison, he was bigger than Jordan and not too far behind Michael Jackson on the worldwide level.

How can anyone say Austin made the Rock when the Rock and Austin character had a mini feud in 97 for the IC title and the Rock got hotter than any heel in the industry by post WM 14. What did Austin have to do with that? Company was turning around after the success of WM 14 but WCW kept that ratings lead for like 3 more weeks before Austin hit the stunner on Vince in NY for the turnaround. Then Goldberg got the title and won some weeks...when Rock got hot in 99, he was the NAIL in the coffin of WCW and ECW. They didn't stand a chance. They were chanting ROCKY during Booker T main event matches in 99 and 2000. Get fukking real.
