based on what? That's like saying cena was losing his spot to cmpunk during the summer of punk but as we know it was just a hot program and a character tweak (that while it got fans excited never translated to mega buys). See it was easy for cm to get louder cheers, cena's character was stale but when it came to the bottom line we knew who the company was in concert with. And that's an exaggerated version of tock and Austin

I always liked Rock better but Austin was good too, his early heel run fighting Bret and them was excellent.

Always thought Austin's heel run in 2001 was underrated. Sure, that shyt never should of happened and didn't make a lick of sense booking wise (Austin had no business teaming with HHH after all those wars they had, nor should he have had Debra as his manager for that stretch), but it did make for some good matches and good TV. Austin vs Angle, vs RVD, w/ HHH vs the Benoit/Jericho, and the complete destruction of the Hardys and Lita are forever burned in my memory.
Rock & Austin were always 1A & 1B for me, and it depended on whatever feud it was for which I listed as A or B. Nobody was cooler than The Rock in The Nation, nor when he came back in 03 as Hollywood Rock, and nobody was cooler than Austin when that glass would hit and he'd run out and kick somebody's ass. Again, that glass hitting and him coming out to smack the Rock with a chair for Foley's title win, along with him leaving the bar and dropping all those Stunners on ECW and WCW guys is burned in my memory.

As popular as Rock was, as a babyface he was always second to Austin when he was around and pushed as such. If you notice, the fans ALWAYS took Austin's side when they crossed paths.
