Only folks I see against gay marriage are bible thumpers.

"I think that all people should have equal rights but as a Catholic, same sex marriage should not be recognized by the church. Sorry that the Bible is against it but, if you are going to take the stand that church and state should be separate stick to that and get your same sex marriage anywhere not in my church......... If you are offended sorry not sorry"

(it's taking me every bit of strength in my body to not make a pedophilia joke on his status)

"this country is going to crap"

straight from my facebook from the only people I see opposing it. (both religious, the second comment being an evangelical type)

Hilarious that an old ass book can have enough sway to halt NATURAL human progression.. Also funny that religious folks are supposed to be all nice and accepting and shyt. Halting both science and social progression. What book can claim to be as destructive? Seems like the only justification anyone can find to not allow for gay marriage comes from the bible.. Otherwise.. what exactly do you use in support of your argument?

Atheist for Jesus
beliefs are a mofo. Given the current trend religion will wain. Politcians will find something else to control the masses. Ironically it'll probably be science.

fastforward 200 years from now and i'm willing to be the shyt being carried on in the name of "science" would disgust every last person in here.

Science and religion at their purest form are tools in the hands of people. Like all tools you can do good or bad with them.

Man, religion has for better or worse brought people together for a common good, the bible has some solid teachings just listen to the gems Jesus drops even if you don't believe in him his ideas are easily understandable, really get what he says, great charity works are done by churches (food drives, missionary works, help for homeless/waywards, christmass wish funds etc)

It provides a moral framework for others to build upon and around.

Besides the bible pretty much spurred the invention of the printing press, the need for it was so great that it is the most widely circulated book in the history of mankind, that in itself speaks volumes.

What an empty thread. Religion is holding society back how. If stem cell research is the only thing you can bring up i think you need to go back to the lab with this garbage thread. In school they teach you about subjects and predicates. I think the OP has no clue what these literary devices are and instead creates a topic so he can rant about nothing, basically saying a whole lot of nothing in regards to the topic of the convo.

Typical emotional atheist. He says something emotional and then expects emotional resposes so we can engage in some shouting match. Somebody help this fakkit get his facts straight so we can actually have a conversation.

How the hell can science be used to control people? Science is EVIDENT. No control is necessary. The evidence is there, logic supports it. For religious folks it's just "THATS WHAT THE BIBLE SAYS!!!!" no evidence..no logic..

Really, you aren't saying much with your hypothetical future "scientific horrors". What am I supposed to say to that? We're talking about shyt that hasn't happened and probably wont happen. Science has been the only thing to illuminate this cold dark world in the past 200+ years. Without it we're back to barely living to the age of 18 and being trapped in the cycle of nature.

The early scientists were a product of their times.. Of course they would be religious.. Some of them were also murdered by the religious authority for their discoveries or beliefs..It's no coincidence that the greatest minds of our time have been atheistic/agnostic...Einstein, Neil deGrasse Tyson the gawd, Bill Gates, Carl Sagan, Dawkins, Hubble, Michio Kaku, Wozniak..

I haven't met a single non-religious person who is against homosexuals being married.. on the other hand there are religious people in droves. And LMAO@Thinking non religious folks would be against stem cell research.. you're a fukking moron dude. Please don't come in here and act like you're interested in the progression of society.. your dumb ass thinks space is breathable.

Religion and the Bible has nothing to do with it.
Yes it does. Those two facebook status's are from people that I know are intelligent. When the bible says something people will believe that thing based on the supposed divinity of the book itself.. without the scripture justifying their beliefs there would be no other justification and the only logical thing to do would be to support gay marriage..

Because without religion, you heathens would be sprinting into the streets to rape babies and animals and start communist regimes and let transsexuals babysit your children while you go to see skrillex in concert, snorting molly and eiffel towering your unmarried sexual partner with your best friend whom you have 3 b*stard children with :stylin:

luckily Jesus is all around your life so you won't partake in this demonic behavior

Meh... maybe. But a lot of our morals aren't derived from and/or are in spite of the bible. There is no benefit that a church does that could not be done for completely secular reasons, from secular institutions.

Way to completely avoid the OP's point, though. There might have been junk science that led to travesties, or limited the progress of mankind, but for the most part science has benefited humanity much more than it's harmed it.

What criteria are you using to define the greatest minds of all times....From that it looks like to me that you believe that greatest minds = followers of science and that just reeks of bias, so I can't take that list seriously...
