He's the new Imagine Dragons.

His music doesn't stretch the imagination by any means. He found a lane and he sticks to it.

His family will be paid off of "Better Now" for two generations because it's perfect background music. It's got a catchy rhythm, non-offensive lyrics and it can fit in commercials, movies, restaurants, malls, doctor's offices, parties etc. It's provides ambiance and doesn't have to stand out from the background.

In other words, people don't have to think to listen to this music. If you ever hear someone (white girls) say Post Malone is amazing ask what other music they like, it'll be the same disposable pop.

He really doesn't have that many black fans. Him doing songs with 21, Quavo, Thug, etc isn't for him to get black fans it's to give him more credibility with his white audience. He's the white guy cool with all the cool black guys so he's cool by association. That and it keeps his songs in rotation on all radio formats (pop, urban/rhythmic, etc) which helps his charting.

he doesn’t really have black fans but black people listen to those songs, those songs are the only time I ever hear someone listening to Post Malone

A lot of interesting opinions on Cac Malone in this thread...
giphy.gif

He's a dusty manufactured cac exploiting and plundering hip-hop for it's resources. Nothin more, nothin less. Nggas always so eager to accept some white goofy MFer...:mjlol:

You fakkits shame me...:francis:

I'm not talkin about ALL white dudes either. I fux wit a Paul Wall type for example. His vibes are authentic. If you can't differentiate the two, your prali not black, or a c00n yourself. I'm talkin bout CACS (Kid Rock, Just Bieber, Post Malone, etc. types).

Post Malone aint shyt, but a remanufactured Kid Rock (another agent of his time). PMs comments and opinions, have already shown you as much, yet you c00ns are still enamored and :gladbron: wit that closet-redneck.

That shyt don't get no burn in a real ngga wheel. GTFOH you sheep...:rudy:

I'll give the hoes a pass, cuz well...View media item 11392IDC how catchy his shyt is. I tune that shyt rite out, when it comes on...:unimpressed:

Any ngga, authentically jackin this closet cac is a dub...:camby:

This narrative of "Well he's white" has got to stop :russ:

He's a guilty pleasure and half of the coli's GUILTY PLEASURE... like a b*tch you keep picking on but you know deep down inside you want her for yourself but can't find yourself admitting you do:banderas:

Point blank, he MAKES HITS. Like it or not, they're catchy af and he does em well :hubie:

he ain't my favorite artist but i can def understand why people gravitate towards him, there's a LOT of casual listeners in this world and he's easy on the ears. Being easy on the ears will earn you mad fans than someone trying to be deep af :jbhmm:

a lot of casual listeners go to bars/clubs
a lot of casual listeners have money to blow aka the college crowd, when a song reminds you of a great time you had at a party, you're more than likely going to want more of that artist. Kid Cudi did that with his first album but didn't have to juice to be consistent like Post. It is what it is, the young crowd and their grandmas can listen to him :yeshrug:
I genuinely usually change the station when his music comes on :ld:

To avoid being repetitive, he does have catchy melodies and the fact that he's versatile with his production in that he can weave through modern pop and trap works well for him...but I was actually thinking more into how he managed to get so big while driving with my son.

My son's 4. My mom's 73. They both know at least a song or two by Post Malone because they sing to themselves. I usually know something is a definite mega-hit when it reaches either of them. My mom randomly sings the hook "Congratulations" and my toddler sings "Sunflower", both are Post Malone songs... :ld:

The other day, I'm driving with my kid and I'm going through the radio. A song comes on and I don't remember what it was, but I changed it because I knew it was a bit dirty and I didn't want my little dude repeating wild shyt at school. When I switched it, "Circles" by Post Malone was on....and I left it because I know that song's pretty clean and harmless. Kind of dawned on me then, a lot of songs become huge because you can play them around your kids...and it bumps across demographics. You got poppy ballads featuring 21 Savage, Young Thug, Dababy, Swae Lee, and Quavo so it's on all stations. Smart move.

Dude's doing sing-songy tunes about heartbreak and relationships and it's stuff that can played at school or around older people, so it rides. Concert comes around and kids ask their parents for tix....well, sure...why not? As far as they know, it's the odd-looking guy from "Goodbyes" and "Better Now" and Rockin' New Year, etc.... :yeshrug:

Really, these are the real answers to the question.

He makes music that's just inoffensive enough that literally everyone is ok with playing it. At my workplace, we have the radio playing all day, and on the "We play everything (but hip hop)!" channel, Post Malone still gets play. They play "Sunflower" and "Circles" damn near nonstop.

That's it. That's the secret. It's hip hop in the sense that there are actual beats, and you'll catch a 16 her and there, but everything about him is molded to be palatable to as many people as possible. He talks about drugs, but not on the singles, so you don't have to worry about censoring the song for radio play, or parents or whoever getting sensitive about it. He doesn't present himself as anyone dangerous, unless you consider looking dirty as fukk as being dangerous.

It's a formula that works.

I hate when coli be like “because he’s white” but this time the cliche is true. I like post music but he is super overrated because of white people. I think it’s because he looks like your average trailer white dude so he’s super relatable to all of em I guess.

this.

Yelawolf and Rittz woulda filled this spot, but they were a bit too technical with the doubletime and it made them niche.

Riff Raff woulda filled this spot, but he was cliched and corny

Action Bronson woulda filled this spot but he was too unapologetically "white".

Tekashi was vying for that spot. He really took Riff Raff's whole shyt and made it "hood". He was literally the "hood" to Post's mainstream pop.
