Yeah they’re not switching up the formula

It’s gonna be like WWE in the mid to late 2010s after Cena aged out

They’re gonna keep trying to force a guy to be the face until it sticks. They tried Zion and Ja and it failed. So whether it ends up being Ant, Wemby, Cooper Flagg or someone else, they’ll keep at it until they get their guy
If Flagg can play he's got it. You find some hood dude to be his foil and you really cooking with grease. That singlehandedly made the WNBA relevant in a year.

The wrestling comp is spot on. I was thinking something similar. Basketball is like wrestling...people tune in for Terry the Racist, Goldberg, Rock, Austin, Cena, and now Roman. Football is like police/doctor shows. You put anybody in a precinct or an operating room and its a hit. Wrestling cant follow that model. It is the way it is right now because the star model was necessary for its survival in the first place.

Sure...but what if its not? Thats the thing, they didnt rely on transcendent players just because. They did it because they had no other choice and frankly needed those players. They tried to be like everybody else and ended up on tape delay.

And for all the sky is falling hue and cry, they did just land a $70 billion TV deal. People project their own issues with the product so often and so loudly that its easy to think thats how it is. The league is good right now. And as I said before, moving away from the negative coverage is a good first step to preparing for life minus Bron and Steph. But you cant just make teams matter when for a lot of folks the sport doesnt even matter. Pushing Ant as the face and/or TMZ ball is way more feasible.
I've said this for awhile now people say they want this from the NBA but they really don't. Unless you're a hardcore fan of ball who is really dying to see Portland vs Washington on a random Wednesday, no amount of "team marketing" is getting people in droves to watch two teams like that play ball, they just aren't good. Now don't get me wrong they have to tone down the "TMZ Ball" aspect of talking about the game because we've gone too far in that direction but in a sport where you play 5 on 5, it's just simpler for the business and the consumer to want to watch stars play. It ain't like in Europe where guys are all around the same level skill/athletic wise. In the NBA guys are just on a different level that can carry a team to a lot of wins on his back so to speak.

The reason why NBA media is so bad is because they are gaslighting NBA fans into believing something that isn't organically true.

Every generation has had their GOAT(s) from Russell/Wilt to Magic/Bird to Jordan to LeBron. But the last 20 years, they've spent so much energy and intellectual capital into forcing the narrative that LeBron is better than Jordan. THE MEDIA HAS devalued the very thing that matters most, WINNING, for stats and analytics as if that matters more.

At least with previous generations you could clearly see they were better than their GOAT predecessors and changed the game in a variety of ways.

The media and Bron stans have torn down SO MANY other players it's ridiculous at this point, all to make sure Bron stays the king. All while refusing to acknowledge how team hopping has given LeBron, already a top 10 GOAT, an unfair advantage over the rest of the league, AND ruined the integrity of the league as a whole. (Actions have consequences)

Now the media has to reap what it has sowed. There is another player that is a stats KING, the likes of which LeBron could not touch, that also has a ring. And going by their criteria, should be up there with LeBron.

But right now NO ONE WOULD SAY JOKIC IS BETTER THAN PRIME BRON, but the media can't backtrack on the very metrics that they used to prop up LeBron over MJ. And now NBA fans are realizing the media has been full of deceit for DECADES. Using analytics to control the narrative on players to their detriment.

People talk about how we need a new MJ, and maybe so. But how can we trust the media to let things play out ORGANICALLY when they've been gaslighting us for so long.

There's only 1 hope, and thats the success of 1 player/team as he as everything you can ask for in a new GOAT. Accolades, achievements, rings, changed the game of basketball, wins and losses at the biggest stage, chief rivals, a real narrative, and most importantly, the absolute best in history at 1 skill.

If Steph Curry and the warriors can win the NBA championship for the 5th time, surpassing LeBron and matching Magic, Kobe and Duncan, after how he saved TEAM USA in the Olympics, in an nba environment that he literally fathered, at an older age, without his top running mate, I think it's time to put him in the top 3, and not 3.

For the record, I stopped reading after this. You are being suffocated by your own delusion if you believe this.

Yeah I’ve been saying for a minute the NBA of all the sports leagues is the closest culturally to WWE in its need to have larger than life superstars and interesting storylines/rivalries to draw in casual fans. Also with the fanbase skewing younger and having segments of that base lose interest when they get older and their hero is no longer the man

You can't have a sport where multiple people on multiple levels outright hate the game. The former players are given financial incentives to shyt on new players for clicks. The talking heads are given financial incentives to create 1-2 player narratives and never really focus on an actual basketball game. Hell you can go to the coaching level and see how HS and AAU (American) kids are being ruined. Or how the NCAA level coaching is so questionable, or how the 3 point spamming makes games unviewable, or how no teams have unique identities anymore. Gone after the days where tuning into a Spurs vs Lakers game meant you were gonna see two very different ways to play. Now it's largely just the same.

They're killing the sport in America while Europe takes advantage: training young players the right way.

Lol. There's no athleticism in Europe. They are shooting nothing but 3s.

That's where we got it from.

Also not just MJ

You ever notice how the main people claiming they stopped being interested in the NBA after the 2016 season are Kobe stans?

And I’m sure the same will be said when LeBron & Steph call it quits

That’s the downside of being a players league. If people’s primary investment comes from following their favorite player, then what happens when said player retires?

Complain that the league isn't what it was
Generational talents create generational fans... But when that generation is over... They go with them (and it's ok). You won't need those fans to sustain the league, new fans will pop up and love some new players
